Well.. the people that have said that are hella stupid since Cantonese is a part of the chinese language, but a majority of China now is Speaking Mandarin.
Well for Canto, I listen to oldies. Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung, Jackie Cheung and a few others. I've never listened to Eason's songs. My parents bought his concert dvd, but haven't really watched the whole thing. Maybe I should. As for Mando, I like Teresa Tang. She's great. Jay Chou, Wang Leehom is alright. A-mei, and... that's about it for the moment. haha. Jay Chou, love his Still Fantasy album.
That's too general of a description, lol. I think you mean, HK artists suck. 張敬軒 is Canto, from GZ in fact, and he's amazing.
^ Yeah, I mean HK. Twins, Joey... I hate em all. Sorry for all the people who love them. Oldies all the way.
thats because cantonese speaking honkies dissed so much sh%t on mainlanders back in the 80's, and now that mainlanders are better off with the rising chinese economy they would want to extract some sort of revenge you can't blame them
hm, i prefer mando over canto.... because mando songs tend to sound nicer and soother to the ear... maybe it's just because of my preference of language... haha... ^^
in my country...most chinese can speak at least 2 or 3 kinds of chinese dialects including mandarin, cantonise, hokkien, hakka,hainan..etc and even some chinese cant speak mandarin we still think he/she is chinese.
I seriously think you should get over with those LOW B mando people. They are just jealous of us Canto people because we are more advanced than they are (although, they are starting to catch up now) It would be so true that us Canto people can easily learn other languages, like Mandarin, quite easily due to the diverse tones we have learnt. I personally speak Canto at home, learnt French at school and now live in Australia and speak English. I learn my Mandarin at the chinese school and off TV. And I have no problem with all of them My point is, if you want to show them you are a chinese, speak more languages. We, canto - CHINESE, are known to be smart people I personally still think China - Mando people still got a looong way to go in how to respect people and how to be POLITE and HUMBLE. I hear alot of weird/bad/scary/shocking stories of China from my mom, and they don't impress me that much even if they speak Mando It just proves to you how low class your mando school peers are (and their families) so why should you be piss off? You got better things to worry than them! As long as you know you are chinese, no one else can say you are not! I got a French workmate who is so into our Chinese culture, sometimes he wonders if he was born in the wrong tummy ...Believe me, he thinks he is more of a chinese than a french! And who is to say for someone who looks chinese but is not one now??
When I was living in Singapore, people used to envy me knowing how to speak Cantonese. I'm now residing in the Netherlands, and a lot of my Chinese friends are learning Mandarin. I don't think it's a discrimination between the 2 languages, but rather the culture that creates this problem. I do admit that I have a preference over Cantonese speaking friends than Mandarin, but that's also because of the culture. I seem not to get along so well with the Mainland Chinese due to this.
that's the first time i heard of that. but anyhow. mando sounds funny. even thoguh it's most taking over the world
Same for me, at school they always say that I'm a fake Chinese, because I'm weak in MATH, not like all the other Chinese who are pros in Math. And I'm born here in Europe, they call me fake Chinese =/ It isn't only the Chinese who say fake Chinese to me, there are many other ppl who say it to me in my class. I think they are juts playing. Because I'm always Mandarin ppl, I'm the only Cantonese at school^^ They always teach me Mandarin is quite funny Hehe. There's no need to make enemies, Mandarin and Cantonese are all Chinese. Just ignore them.
I am a german born chinese (fake chinese ^^), and i speak cantonese. A lot of people dont know the difference between the dialects (European people). So I always tell them, that I am chinese comin from HK and speaking cantonese. I explained them that only in the Mainland of China the people speakin mando and in HK and near HK they speak canto. I also don´t have a problem if the people call me HongKonger or that I´m speaking HongKongnese. Maybe it´s because I´m livin in Europe, so I like HK more than the Mainland, life on th Mainland (north) is completely different than the south or HK. I can say I am proud to be a Hong Konger =) Buuut nothing against the Mainland people My gf is also mando speakin ^^
wish i knew fluent mandarin atm... and atleast read chinese... would make life so much easier here! its a struggle when they don't speak english or cantonese ><
Well if they really meant it, then they're rude and ignorant. I know in my school, we joke around with people's culture but we never try to hurt people's feeling. Besides, cantonese is awesome espeically in swearing-rolleyes All the non-chinese kids here know how to swear in cantonese. They just love the dialect
totalllyyyy agreee 張敬軒 is an awesome singer there are good hk artists out there.. and it's ok that there's sucky ones... because they make the good ones special in my heart lolllll and it totally bugs me when ppl say that cantonese isn't chinese --' ... some ppl just think weird
it's the first time i heard of it. but if you hear it again just tell them that you speak the cooler, harder to learn chinese language. 'cause according to some studies cantonese is a harder language to learn than mandrain.
But do you all know the facts is that Guangdong in China, was consider as the most influential and independent province in CHina ... as 95% of Guangdong people are speaking Cantonese ... not like any other provinces that speak Mandarin although their original dialect is either, Hakka, Teochew, Hainan etc... And it's also one of the biggest province in China also (beside Beijing and Shanghai) ... this was told by a few friends of mine in China ...
