For all you Cantonese speakers out there

    Shame that Cantonese never became the official spoken language of China. Rumor had it that it nearly did once, since Sun Yat Sen ( the guy who brought china into the modern age) was from the Guangdong province.

    In theory, the spoken form of "chinese" can be any of the varying dialect. Be it Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese etc.

    Maybe the official spoken language was called Putonghua " common speech" to stop people associating the standardise mandarin with any one region.

    yeah,I remember I read from a newspaper said that cantonese does nearly became national language in China,too bad it didnt though,cantonese is cool

    ok, there is really no need for this thread. this thread does nothing but causing haterd against different dialect people.
