Guang Zhou is a city in the Province of Guang Dong (Canton) which is a province in the south of China...
Didn't u see?... that's why i put / on Guangdong and guangzhou!!! Anyways, what I meant earlier in the other posts about China or Taiwan, cuz he said he speaks Mandarin, so I'm thinking in either China or Taiwan or something. China - as in, other provinces in China.. besides Guangdong, cuz I know that GD is in China already. But he said 'other places' even though GD IS in China, but he's indicating some other places instead.
There is a small portion of Kongers who are native and have been there for generations as fishermans when Hong Kong was a fishing village. Then during the Ching dynasty, there was a mass influx of Haka people who migrated to Hong Kong to trade. For many decades these were the only people. When the communist party started marching, there was another influx of people from the Sei Yup area that also migrated to Hong Kong and settled there. I'm not going to count all the whites and outside people who settled in HK only these past few decades... But yes, technically you're right, the majority of people in HK today are from Guandong (Haka & Sei Yup)
FYI Guang Dong is a province. These provinces are divided into counties called Yuan. Sei Yup consists of 4 Yuans: Toi San, Houi Ping, Sun Wui, and Poon Yu, all within Guang Dong. And the majority of people in Hong Kong are from these 4 counties. Guang Zhou is a city within Guang Dong province...
Ya, some of my friends who are born in HK consider themselves "pure HK" while others are very proud of their roots from Guangzhou, and would equally consider themselves from "HK" and "Guangzhou"
