hk ppl asian countries are easy to get guns do you know how many robberies there are with guns in hk? i doubt you can hold up a gold store or a bank with a machette or anything of the sort you must have at least a handgun or some sort of weapon
I guess, but then despite everything, even if you take those "hold up at banks and gem stores" into account, stricter gun control DOES lead to a relatively safer society... Plus, most of the firearms they have access to are relatively less "damaging"... it's not likely a high school student can get his hand on a semi-automatic @_@b But it's just me who thinks this way I guess.
Actually, I think I've seen a video on Ogrish.com where some chinese guys robbed a gold store with machettes. It's now LiveLeak and I'm not sure if the vid is still there. Oh, and how many? Can you give me a ball park number? Ratio of suspected guns on the streets of Honk Kong to robberies would be nice too.
Well, we can't stop people from buying weapons legally no matter how strict the gun laws are and as long as people have guns in their houses, like I said, there will always be criminals willing to steal them. And if you take weapons away they become more more expensive on the black market, more desirable, and more of a liability for legal owners. The only problem here is people. Take this Cho guy, for example, he could have obtained a gun licence legally and still did what he did. How could stricter gun laws stop him from exercising his right as an american to bear arms? He had no criminal record before this. Also, last I heard the murder rate in canada each year is very very low. If I remember correctly in this one recent year the total number of people murdered could be counted in one hand, I think it was. Tell me why a home owner shouldn't have a gun to protect his/her family. Or why a business owner shouldn't have one to protect his/her business. There are more than a few reasons for why a person would want to own a weapon and untill every single weapon in the U.S. can be accounted for and are in safe hands I don't see a reason why a law-abiding person should not or could not bear arms. Just beacuse a few stupid individuals decide to commit violent acts with a gun doesn't mean guns are bad. Just people.
in the us texas has one of the least strict gun laws...... but thye also have one of the lowest mortaliy ratings caused by guns...... this might be because of the willingness to hand out the death penalty like candy but it can also be because if u have a gun and someone else has a gun ur gonna think twice b4 u shot..... compared to if u have a gun n the other person does not...... in texas it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon but if u have it showing it is legal to carry.... yes it is scary walking into a bar where everyone has a gun but at least u dont hafta worry about someone pulling a gun out of no were ...... i live in california where handguns are illegal except in homes .... when i went over to texas to visit my friend i felt safer knowing where all the guns were ... compared to bars in cali u dont know who has the gun... u just know their around (well this only applies to the type of bars i go to.... but still...) now if u really wanted to prevent gun deaths we should take in consideration of what chris rock said "u charge like 5000 a bullet n the shoter will think twice before tehy shot someone .... at least make sure they kill what they tryna shot..... bullets today are cheap like 10 dollars for 50 9mm bullets .... (proud owner of a mack10 .... also illegal in california.... .... there are too many loop holes in gun laws ..... gotta love the USA)
It all boils back to the question, why do we need legal arms? Much of the assumption of protection of home or self is based on there ARE legal arms lying around available for stealing. It seems to me that it's kind of a circular logic where stricter gun laws means still legal guns at homes (which I DID NOT mean)? The problem to me is being too lenient in handing out arms. I guess I just grow up in a place without guns (or at least, few of it), never able to comprehend the need to protect a home with arm, just like I never comprehend the desire for a mansion where one cannot properly take care of. I cannot be certain, of course, why Texas has the lowest mortality rate by guns. But my speculation is first the death penalty, and next, when everyone KNOWS how to handle guns and EVERYONE is expected to handle guns (visibly), it DOES keep the world safer somewhat. But the catch of the equation is that there are people who are unwilling to handle arms. But I guess I need to kudos to the "expensive ammo" theory, it may just be the solution to all our problems. Also, I think the problem is that little of the legal arms in US is accounted for, or at least they are not in good hands doing what they should be doing... What can I say, got to love the paradox of US politics. May be one day all Americans will be armed once they turn five. Perhaps then it could be a perfect world, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to live anywhere near such country.
Cho obtained his guns legally with registration and receipts. The problem lies in the control of firearms, everyone is entitled to exert the "right to protect myself" as an excuse to purchase weapons. Should that be a valid reason to carry firearms, then everyone should be handed out a gun as a measure to protect themselves since there WILL never be a day where firearms will be accounted for. How would you know which citizen is law abiding? Wouldnt it be simply much safer if the government bans the sales of firearms? Yes, blackmarket price will soar up, but it does not necessarily means that the demands will be more because of this banning policy.
^ I think I should avoid travelling to the states altogether now... There are crazy people everywhere yes, but crazy people with guns... That's another matter. And the fact that pik thinks that he should be armed for people staring is kind of scary too... Too likely to be reported as collateral damage if I travel to the states, easily aggrevated people? With guns? And loads of ammo?
Don't even like the thought of handling guns... It's just the road leading to all kinds of hell right there...
