Have you ever speak the written language?

  1. I can only speak, but I can't write because I was born in another country.

If it's a song, then I probably would try to sing it that way...
I have seen people say "hei foon" (like) in Cantonese...hehe.
    I wouldn't say never--- it's happens...

I remember when I was writing essays in Chinese back in the day...I couldn't understand why I had to write "ngo moon" instead of "ngo day" for the word "we."

I do speak cantonese and I think that it is a great language. Knowing another language is always nice.

Well. Depends on the time of usage. If I am making a presentation or something, then of course, I would use more literal words.

Sometimes, my friends my use these words just to be funny. But other than that, Cantonese is an oral language.

Yup, you got to be submerged in the culture and language in order to keep it fresh. You got to speak, read, and write it pretty much almost daily, or else you'll start forgetting.

Like for me, for example, I went through 12 years of French, and have already forgotten at least 30% of it since graduation because I don't use it at all. Period. In fact, I haven't used it for at least 2 years already. But that's not a big deal. I'm not a big fan of French anyways.

I only speak the oral form. I never understood why there was a way to speak the written form. So when I read to myself, I read as if it was orally spoken.

I only do that when i'm joking around. but it's easier to read written using mandarin, because in cantonese... it's just odd.

I've spoken the written language in cantonese before. I still do that but usually in a joking/cocky way. For instance, after saying something and I want others to comment, I might say 對不對 (dui but dui) in cantonese. Or as someone above stated, I might say 喜歡 (hei foon) or 什麼 (sum mor) once in a while.
