    I'm not saying the guy is right either. He is definitely wrong for jaywalking, but the driver should still be at fault! In your situation, your mom was able to swerve out of the way, and many others should be too. Don't know what speed your mom was driving but if a person can't see whats ahead they should drive slower. Like you said, better safe than sorry.

    ofcourse, you should go out of your way to be aware of such things as pedestrians or bikers and such, but it's not always possible to avoid these situations... like a kid runs out onto the street chasing a ball... but even so, that doesn't mean pedestrians always have the right of way... why make a law about jaywalking if pedestrians always had the right of way? all cars should stop as pedestrians to choose to cross at their whim away from a crosswalk? speed limits on all local roads should be 25mph or lower everywhere... the man played with fire and got burned...

    drivers ed and training is nice, but there are vehicle and human reaction limitations... a semi takes a hell of a lot more stopping distance than say an echo, and the elderly have a slower human reaction time than an 18yo kid... so if a 65yo man driving a semi can't stop in time and hits someone because the guy decided to jump into the street trying to pick up a rolling quarter should get charged with manslaughter no matter the circumstances?

    That's what Chinatown was like until maybe just the last couple of years... people walking at their whim across the street... now when I go, the majority, like 95% actually follow the rules/laws of the road, which is great, but b4... maybe just half did... cars were even more congested because people usually ignored the pedestrian lights and cars just couldn't drive right through the wall of people obviously...

    in this situation, the driver is at fault for speeding, reckless driving, and possibly racing... but he most likely won't be charged for manslaughter because the man was jaywalking... the law stipulates that cars actually can't even cross the crosswalks until there are no pedestrians in the crosswalk regardless of whether or not the pedestrian is obstructing the cars(which most if any driver don't actually follow this rule)... that's how much leeway pedestrians have at crosswalks, made for a reason, ignored by the unreasonable...

    lol i saw this on the news, lol ppl just stared at him for like an minute then went to look at him closer, ,,....... talk bout being nice

  5. Um. No. You swore wrong.

    'Grotesque' is a word that belonged in my vocabulary long before I knew about PA, more specifically, from learning French. My vocabulary is quite developed FYI. I don't know why you would even want to take credit for something so stupid and irrelevant.

    I don't appreciate that. Uncool >=[

    That would be way to slow <.<

    And yea, Driver's Ed is practically useless. I honestly, barely got anything out of it but the fees that came with the class.

    Lastly, according to Wikipedia, jaywalking laws only exists in some countries.

  8. gosh calm down dann i was just making a comment -.-;;; nothing serious it just happen to notice no one else on PA used the word in context before =P

    anyways.... it is the drivers fault cause quite frankly they shouldn't be in the left lane anyways... its a a double solid yellow line (most likely) meaning there is NO PASSING and the reason why people didn't immediately rush out to help him is because of a principle called bystander apathy.... no one likes to take forth the responsibility...

    i rly doubt the double solid lines will make a difference in the case... the purpose of the lines have nothing to do with pedestrians to begin with... if nething, it'd probably make it worse for the guy emphasizing the need to use the crosswalks since the street was a busy enuff street to require double solid lines...

    Watched this on the news, its soo sad no one stopped to help. People these days just arent willing to help anymore, all those pple standing around and no one even bothered to take a mobile out and call an ambulence...how simple is that.
