BeTV currently upgrade their software that embedded the certificate in their software which means they are considering the authentication for the streaming. Anyway, I agree with you if they charge at a reasonable amount if it is working fine. That's why I am still considering to buy it.
@hawai'. yea that link u posted, that is how my Box looked like too. and well if you find filling the form and receiving a call in mandarin from them is not so convenient then I guess buying it from ebay just for extra $10 is fine, just make sure he is a serious seller. @Wiseman-Ray don't think just do it! and I am agree with Phantoman, I don't mind to pay a reasonable monthly fee, as long as they maintain with good range of content offering and good content delivery capacity. 5-10 euros would be a reasonable price to start with I guess.
from the forum, i think they're going to charge for those movies/dramas download, but not live broadcasting TV channels.
Hey I bought the TVPAD from this ebay seller too. Fast shipping and works beautifully!!!! I'm loving it and will buy another one for the inlaws.
Certificate ?!?! As in SSL certificates ?!?! I hope not, if they start encrypting the stream it will make it a pain to sniff the traffic, not impossible though as long as I get a hold of that public server certificate ... well, unless they start using client certificates as well, then we are fubar Has anyone tested this on-demand feature already then ? Can you watch movies/dramas in good quality ? Btw, is it on-demand or really download ? I guess an alternative would be the PA private servers. Damnit, stop teasing me guys ... I want my box!!!
I tested the on demand movie and drama series it takes longer to load since it has to buffer first. But the quality is watchable depending how old the movies are. There are some really crappy one and some really good ones. I also like the option to choose between cantonese and mandarin for some of the movies/drama with that option.
By the way guys, I already got my unit from the same ebay seller Hawai posted earlier. Watching it now and it's freakin awesome!
Now if I can only figure out how to hook up a DVR to it, I'll be in heaven! TVPAD should create an android app for DVR features.
Or I guess you can get a Video Capture or TV Tuner card for recording to a PC, assuming you have an HTPC in the living room like me. It's going to be one of my many projects when I get the box. In the meantime I will keep salivating at all of you guys' comments Btw, thanks for the info about the on-demand feature.
Yeah I was thinking about using a capture card, but that means it's another piece of hardware I have to spend money on. Plus it would have to be a capture card with HDMI input. Those aren't cheap. And lets say I do have a capture card, that means I have to have TVPAD continuously stream in order for the capture to work. That would eat up my allowed bandwidth with my service provider. That's why I think TVPAD developers should add a dvr app and all we have to do is add an external usb hard drive and run the app. Let me know if you figure out another way. Glad we can all share our ideas!
How you guys/gals enjoying this device because of time-zone difference with all your favorite shows? For the USA viewers, and I guess for me the only free time would be at night to watch anything on TV. So, when I watch BETV, or sopcast on TVB channels when they were still working, almost always they are showing morning news on the stock markets, or news....Are there anything else beside these shows at all? Actually, I havent try or able to watch every other channels that are currently being offer on TVPad....
The WLTV direct links have been updated in the main post, including TVB. Don't be surprised if they stop working soon.
The TVB WLTV links only work in Windows Media Player for me. However, the video and audio is stuttering. Anyone with the same problem? It doesn't look like the video is constantly buffering so it might be the video source. How do you force widescreen?
I have the same problem with the time difference. But my parents don't work and they wake up early so not as much problem for them. All I can suggest is to watch the on demand channel with all the drama series or movies. They have over 1000 drama series and over 800 movies to select from.
Possible DVR solution for TVPad (ie. timeshift playback) 1) Get TVPad with Composite-to-3.5mm AV jack (comes with TVPad) 2) Get EasyCap external USB tuner for $0.99 cents off eBay 3) Desktop/Laptop/HTPC/Raspberry Pi? 4)???? 5) Profit. However, I think the EasyCap external USB tuner only records 480i... I'm not sure how high quality the TVPad streams are... Cheapest easiest solution (BY FAR) unless you go Blackmagic Intensity ($199), Avermedia TV tuner capture cards ($150), or Haugpaugge external DVRs ($150)...
good suggestion on the Easycap solution. I guess #4 would be DVR Software. And component video is only 480i. TVPad can stream up to 1080i. the problem with this setup, even with the right dvr software, the tvpad would still need to be streaming constantly 24/7 unless you turn it on and turn it off after each recording. Thus eating up bandwidth and possibly over heating the unit
Yes correct, they only work in WMP for me as well. I am not at home right now, but when I tested it a few hours ago before I went to sleep it was not stuttering. As for the widescreen issue, it never bothered us, so we watch it in whatever screen ratio that comes up. In my case I do not have a bandwidth issue. My ISP has fair-use policy and they never complained during the days that I had 7 SopCast streams active at the same time 24/7. My question is more about using the composite connection at the same time as the HDMI one. Can you watch from both outputs at the same time or is it only one or the other ? It would be nice if you could record something for someone else and watch at the same time on your TV. EDIT: Oh yeah, good suggestion on the Easycap!
The TVB WLTV links work in Oplayer / Oplayer Lite on iPad. Both players have to option to change to widescreen.
