i think it's ok. i'm really into the new music. like raymond lam's new album is pretty good and i also like fahrenheit songs. but yeah, maybe if you are comparing them to oldies like leslie cheung and alan tam then maybe it's not as good but still acceptable in my list.

u mean because we have a dowloads section -noclue

but it is nice to know what your gunna buy is a good album. but as we all know theres people who take advantage of free stuff =="

4. even if u factor in downloads it still doesn't make up for the declining industry as a whole , so you can't blame everything on piracy which has been around way before the internet or the industry worldwide wouldn't be alive in fact people who download stuff espically in asia probably wouldn't even have known about a certain artist/product if it weren't for the so called downloads. I know a factor of hong kongs decline could of been was the asian financial crisis in 1997, higher album costs and some others but the real problem i believe is the crappy production values they put into recruiting and training their new artists.

Videos then = nice story meaningful to watch the same can be said for lyrics and production.

Videos now = The main star looking at the wall singing to themself while it pans to their lover/breakup as a memory or not in some kinda way.

i don't want to be biased but if you don't believe me see any video and you will see how generalized it is.

oh by the way.. stephy tang is one of the hottest selling and biggest female singer currently in hong kong and all they could make for her latest is a quick cheesy cheesy video with no production values at all?

Typical garbage no wonder people are buying into korean and japanese stuff these days how many times are you going to flip the channel when you see this video come up?

*edit*

i have another thing to say about the person on talents vs britney spears having none yet she is successful , the difference between britney spears having no talent as a singer is that she has good production in her music so it suits her voice and style of music. If you're a crappy singer and u have neither talent or production ur garbage.

I would also say that "stars" who emerged in the early days, like Eason and Joey, are also coming out with crappier and crappier music now. They win all the awards because their names are "established".

The reason I think for Hong Kong's downhill music industry is that:
1. There aren't enough "true" artists, ie. singer/writers. Some real singer-writers-composer are 王苑之, 藍奕邦, Vicky, Endy, etc.
2. Related to the previous point, there are only a few song-writers and composers within the Hong Kong music industry, like 林夕 and Vincent Chow, to write and compose music for ALL those singers.
3. Most artists today are discovered on talent shows.

In my opinion, it doesn't bother me that much. I don't think 方力申 is that bad. But I am against artists and groups like Freeze, Hotcha, Jill, etc.

By the way, your poll is missing an "excellent" or "good" option. What if someone really thought that of HK's music industry?

usually ppl just DL music now >.> the buisness comes from concerts and promotions, that's why in terms of albums sounding garbage, every culture is the same now, they know ppl aren't going to buy the albums, so they make 2-4 good hit singles, and fill the other 8-12 songs up with garbage =P but then again, that's only my opinion!

Its not more about the download but more about the quality of the singers in HK. Most singers just don't have a voice in the HK industry so what can the producers do. If the singers do have a voice, more people would be willing to buy the albums more because no one wants to keep a garbage album.

for the album, mostly 2~3 songs are nice, the rest are rubbish. old school is way much better compare to today. Quality is a must if you wanna sell top albums.

no shortcuts like using reality show to produced instant stars,it don't sell that well. :D

The industry is going down hill maybe because of the music awards ... what's the point of the same awards when the same artist is gonna win the same award over and over again? and then when somebody doesn't win the award they assumed .. they say it's rigged and then boycott it next year??

i notice that the awards are nearly the same; e.g. isn't the 'best singer' and 'best chinese singer' the same thing?? like we obviously know that their only giving awards to chinese singers .. what's the point of having the same award given out but just a different title?

i prefer the award system in america .. the awards are unexpected and there's only one or two ceremonies a year. Even Australia has one annual award ceremony .. The Arias!! Like come on .. stop so many awards since it's not necessary .. only one or two is needed .. it's just ridiculous!!
