How bad is eating spicy food bad for the skin?

Are you sure that spicy food contributes to oesophageal irritation? Didn't know that was a risk factor. I thought it was more of an irritant in peptic ulcer disease. And I don't think it's gas reflux...lol. Why would gas cause irritation? It's more of regurgitation of the gastric contents that cause constant irritation of the lower oesophagus, leading to a Barrett's. Please correct me if I'm wrong :p

Here's my hypothesis to why spicy foods might cause acne (though the much smarter scientists say it doesn't :p). Chemicals in spicy foods stimulate our nervous system and cause increase in metabolism, sweating and dilation of the blood vessels. With the sweating, there is also production of sebaceous (oily) secretions from the sweat glands especially in the areas of the face and axilla. Without proper facial care and hygiene, the pores get blocked, predisposing to acne. What do you think? Make sense?-smart

I love spicy food...thank God I don't get too many pimples...

i think what AOF meant by gas reflux is the gastric reflux, not the actually gas -lol

your hypothesis do make sense but there's also the hormonal factor involved somewhere...

    Haha...my bad, my bad

Well, that's why I said it was a hypothesis. It's a proven fact that hormones are the mainstream cause in acne problems. Especially in guys.

sorry i meant GRED and not gas reflux, some people get GRED after eating spicy foods, this was the model i learned - GRED or reflux esophagitis or heartburn => glandular metaplasia =>dysplasia=> CIS => invasive adenocarcinoma, this occurs only in a small percent of the people

It's GERD, not GRED. Stands for gastro-oesophageal reflux disease.

Huh? There's something called AIS? What does it stand for? Haha...learning something new here. Btw, CIS stands for carcinoma in situ, right?

I thought you were a purest, so I changed CIS to AIS. AIS is adenocarinoma in situ. It is mainly for GYN cytology. In the TMN staging, it is just Tis or CIS

Apparently eating too much spicy food will give you spots and its bad for your liver and I heard from somewhere that you can lose hair from it. Its probably bad for your stomach as well as it burns the inside of it if its really spicy and you eat it all the time

According to the research so far, there'es no relationship between diet and breakout. Allergy is another story.

Ask a doctor, they might not know much. Ask a Dietitian and they'll all say the same unless they're not genuine or so called dietitian that's not registered to either British or Australia's Dietitian Association or just some nutrition degree holder.

Why only British and Australia? I'm kinda not updated on association thing but they're the most pure in diet studies not some country that has all sorts of elective subjects (well rounded but not so specialise). There's other recognised dietetic association but they have to be British ed style.

Just to re-emphasize according to research there's no direct connection between diet and breakout so no food you put into your mouth will cause acnes or pimples which mean in biochemal lab we can't produce any effect from any food substance.

But the hypothesis is not wrong, sweat, oil, no face care + the most important, genetic. Then you'll better be careful. What I've learnt in my class was that what you are right now, blame or thank your parents and your ancestors.
