When I was a kid I used to watch all kinds of Asian dramas with my mommy and the songs were always so catchy so I got into it. As I got older my other Asian friends would introduce me to different music (korean, chinese etc) and I just got hooked.
hm,, i've always liked azn music,, i think my first fav singer was joey >< idk...i have short term memory... then twins...but they didn't sing good...so i have no idea why i liked them that time.. but now, i'm more into taiwan singers, jay chou, jolin tsai, cyndi wang, rainie yang...ect..
from the radio airplay and tv station that played those MTV back in the late 80s, that's how i was hooked onto the oriental music.
Fortunately my house had alot of karaoke and cds lying around. I used to watch all the old mvs as a kid. if ur old enough you've probably done the arron kwok dance "ai ai ai bu wan' when aaron kwok came out i was like omfg hes so cool i wanna split my hair like him but never dared to until wayy later. this song was so badass back then, jacky cheung one of best chinese singer of all time! Leon The Romantic with whats her name.. i forgot - anyways better then the janice remake Classic Andy Lau with Easons wife
The thread starter didn't really use it in a derogatory way though. I think sometimes people use terms without really knowing what they mean, so there's no need to get offended in this case... but for future reference... By definition, the word "oriental" is considered Eurocentric because it refers to things east of Europe. Because not all Asians are from the orient it is taken as an offence. Oriental = inanimate objects. i.e.: rugs, tapestries, paintings Asian = people/countries/culture Anyway, I basically grew up watching Asian dramas and listening to Asian music, so I was pretty much hooked since I was kid.
After watchin Love@FirstNote! After that movie I was searchin Justin Lo and stuff.. then slowly there were more and more haha. I used to say I WOULD NEVER LISTEN TO CHINESE MUSIC! I'm not a fob. hahahaha now look!

I've always grown up listening to chinese music i guess. I remember watching a Beyond concert when I was about three...I went tot heir last concert by the way hehe...aaron kwok was my first celebrity crush, then the spice girls came along...then i found my passion for kareoke so i began listening to chinese music again.
at first my friend introduced me to jay chou. then i went to taiwan and just got stuck on mando music
my brother has videotape of chinese songs of different singers but i just remember faye wong and valen hsu... i was 12 maybe.
i like jacky cheung during the 80s and early 90s. Since these modern music started, i stop listening to the new ones; but, im still listening to the classic oldies. If i were to listen to the new ones, i rather listen to american rock music. screw the modern canto-pops. p.s HUNNEE... i think ur pretty....lol
i always listened to chinese music, got hook ever since i heard andy lau when i was 4, then i found PA and now im a happy little fob boy listening to asian songs
