I would not say that Federer is in the same level. He made 50 unforced errors in one match at the US Open against a mediocre opponent. You would never see Federer make this much mistakes in his glory days. His forehand is just not the same anymore

in federer's defense he has been sick with mononucleosis so you cant really expect him to play at his usual level

I totally forgot he got mononucleosis, which played a big factor in how he struggled this season. He's still better than Nadal, but that gap is probably a bit closer than the past 2 years.

can't believe u guys are letting him use that excuse... I'm a federer fan... but when u use an illness as an excuse... that's just sad... if ur sick... take a time out and take care of it first... man up...

i thought federer was gonna beat murray. murray is gd but he's not yet gd enough. be good if he wins wimbledon though. federer deserved the us open victory, he played very well.

Obviously, you have no clue what mononucleosis is. It takes up to months to recover from that. Of course, if he still loses as much games next year as this year, then he declines. Otherwise, I have a plate of crows for you to eat if he dominates (except clay) like he did in the past.

Some of his fans may use that excuse but Federer has gives full credit to his opponents who have beaten him early this year.

federer has been sloppy and lost his killer instincts the last couple of years but i think he'll re-focus and regain his #1 ranking next year.

Federer's a nice guy, even when he loses he gives respect to his opponents... he won the US open, not sure if he can win the masters coming up...

I do think he still can be No. 1, because he still do not own the most Grand Slam won, and he is still the man to beat at Wimbledon.

Federer is not old in tennis yet. He just has too many injuries that are affecting him now and has not looked 100 percent all year. I hope he does make a bounce year next year.

I'm a Federer fan, but no one even Federer can maintain the number 1 for so long. His achievements are already remarkable. I feel he has reached his peak, but definitely not the end of his career. You can't expect him to reach all the slam finals, and only lose like 6 matches a year anymore. But there is definitely more in him, just not as dominant anymore. Age, and the fact that there is always younger players improving and coming up.
