    I just tested, you dont need to have that scrobbler program to keep track, jsut the add on for your media player.

    You can get special programs to tag things for you, think one of them is called 'Tag & Rename'

    No, it's totally free :) Unless you want to subscribe, which doesn't really give you that great of options, it's pretty much just as good being unsubscribed...these are the only extras you get subbed...

    Uninterrupted radio listening
    Ad-free browsing and streaming
    Recent visitors to your profile
    A prestigious black icon

    But yeah, everything else still functions fine without a subscription.
