    mandarin will always get you around the country, cantonese just the south

    im canto. i can speak canto fluently. my chinese writing is errr ok, i dink. i can read some chinese. i can speak a lil mando (enough to get by). currently learning chinese.

    I speak canto but I can't read and write it. I can write a few characters but not much. When I was little I went to saturday chinese school. But it didn't helpt.

    Looks like alot of people here are cantonese... I am too!! Speak it fluently but not as well reading or writing it...

    My mandarin is minimal though, can't understand a film or drama or even a song though!

    i'm canto..
    i'd say its quite fluent, although for some odd reason... apparently i mix it with english so most of the time im speaking chinglish, rather than pure canto =\

    i can read n write chinese - speak canto n also learnin mandar =P - can use pin-yin to input chinese characters but jst cannot understand the hell wat ppl say in mandarin unless i have subtitles or a book in front of me...tellin me word 4 word lol

    I can understand conversational Cantonese, but speaking it is a-whole-nother thing. I totally butcher the language.

    I am Cantonese

    My parents are from China but from Canton Province. I learn my Cantonese from them, I learned even more from watch TV shows and movies that are in Cantonese.... I am born in Canada... so I cant read or write chinese... but I can at least write my name....
