I am Cantonese 100%, unfortunately we are loosing the battle, today most Chinatown speak more mandarin than Cantonese...bummer...
I'm Cantonese and am only conversationally fluent. I can read a bit of traditional form, which isn't much considering how much Chinese school I went to. XD
i'm canto .. currently studying mando in uni!~ it's realli damn hard !=( i feel like i have to curl my tongue alot !=.= haha .. i'm realli surprised .. there's more canto speakers than mando !?=T
^ Yes it is very hard to learn mando...I've been struggling to learn mando for 7 years and when I finally got the hang of it, it was the end of mandarin school for me... I'm canto who can read, write both tradition and simplified but mostly write in traditional, since I've learnt to write mostly in traditional. And also I've learnt to speak in mando but not that good. xD Pretty useful to know both since in high school my friend are a mixture of canto and mando
hmm dats wierd i thought manderin would have most but i guess not alot of manderin people go on PA u know " gok YU" country's language
hmm i think the title should be "which one you speak" since those are languages and not types of chinese people.
As an ABC in the Bay Area, I've been speaking Cantonese all my life. I've picked up Mandarin in the past few years, and I guess I'm pretty fluent with that too. Still, I can't write but I can read most common characters.
