You're right it doesn't really matter, cause in the end, we are chinese. And well the cultures are somewhat different, expecially the language. Although they are similar, they are very different. Many who know one language often do not know the other. But in cases, many do know both languages. But my point is, some people like me just wanna see how well they fit in. Sure we all are chinese, but we all are different down to our personalities, but how similar are we to each other? Of course this won't answer that question but it's a start on knowing.
Yo~most Cantonese here, (i'm ), but it's a bit scary that only 1 Mandarin voted in the post? and no other race : \?

I'm Cantonese, but I can understand and speak both Cantonese and Mandarin. Although I'd say I'm slightly better with Canto...
=D Im cantonese, and i can read, write, speak fluently. i can also speak mandarin fluently, and i can read simplified chinese, but cant write it >.<
Cantonese sort of. My parents speak Cantonese but they're from different areas in China so the Cantonese I speak sounds different from what cousins speak whose parents are from basically the same area. I am the only one of my siblings that can halfway speak Cantonese properly. My four year old cousin speaks Cantonese better then all of us older cousins. He speaks like an adult even though no one has taught most of the things he talks about. I would like to learn Mandarin though but I can only do one language at a time since I'm learning Spanish at the moment.
