^i think with everyday thats passing that they dont get those people out increases the death toll by quite a bit cause the chances of finding people alive drop massively

I quess china doesnt have any system that monitors changes in the Earth plates cause i know some countries do have some sort of system as earth quakes are geneally when 2 plates under earth cross over each other.

china is no stranger to earthquakes.. but the quake happened so quickly and at such a high magnitude and there isn't a large portion of China that is have earthquake resistant buildings.

i agree mainly due to lack of food/water and also from diseases arising due to death of others trapped.

Been watching the news and survivors are still being found, but in another 24hrs without water, it will be a different story. Hope more help can get to them soon, its so devestating for them, and so much to repair after, gona be a long road ahead.

BEICHUAN, China - A Chinese state news agency says rescuers have pulled a student to safety after being trapped for 80 hours in the debris of a school following this week's massive earthquake.
    PUBLICIDAD

Xinhua News Agency said Friday that rescuers could still hear weak yells for help from the collapsed building in Beichuan in the northern part of Sichuan and hope to rescue more students.

The confirmed death toll from Monday's earthquake has risen to 19,509, but the government says that is expected to more than double.

even if it is just one kid, at least there's a little bit ray of hope

I believe that they are now rising close to the 50,000 toll in the province of Sichuan...my god.
My parents just sent couple of hundreds to donate for earthquake relief, I've never felt so heart-heavy in a long time.

Its heartwarming that the Chinese diaspora has already contributed millions in just a short amount of time. But there is still work to be done. The PRC government has projected that there is still going to a tremendous financial need to assist people who have been left homeless, wide areas without medical assistance or supplies, and most importantly food. The post earthquake clean up is not as dramatic as the falling buildings and bodies being pulled from rubble, but nevertheless can be even deadlier for more people unless they get the right help right away. Every little bit can help, so don't hesitate; be generous. Look at it as buying karma (if you're philosophical) or just doing the right thing (if you're philosophically hip).

But, just a few words of caution. If you're going to donate, be wary of scams. Donate only at large organizations that will give you a receipt or acknowledgement. I know many people (myself included) have the tendency to just shove money into a box when its thrust in my face. Problem is, how do I really know that my money is going to real victims and not some scam artist taking advantage and victimizing the quake victims once more?

Here are a few links to sites that will provide such info:

Also, if your's is going to be a sizable donation, ensure a paper or electronic trail so that
    1. it doesn't get lost
    2. you may get a tax deduction for your gift (depending on your locality)

Good luck and please give generously in this time of need.
