i agree, name calling pisses me off. especially when u hear other people doing it, it's so damn corny. u begin to doubt if they even know ur name...even ur surname.

I don't think its corny at all. I had a long relationship with someone, and we never called each other by our real name. It became a habit and find it weird calling each other by our real name. Even after breaking up, we called each other by our nicknames, which confuse some people.

Calling someone names like dear, honey, sweetheart and darling are all a kind of endearment. It's a way you show affection for your partner, and also a way to show you're not afraid to let people know of your feelings for the person. I feel it's brave for a guy to use these terms of endearment AND answer to them because it kinda disturbs your ego right?

But I feel that things can always go 2 ways, 1 is to be teased about it and vice versa. You become an object for teasing when you're embarrassed by it. So don't be.

And honestly, if you really dun like it, go talk to your partner gently, make her understand. I, for one, have been calling my boyfriend "Dear" for thrree years and vice versa, in front of everybody. It was kinda enbarrassing at first but we got used to it, and it becomes something special we call each other. I wouldn't want it any other way. ^^

because ANYBODY can call them by their name. But it takes someone special to be allowed to call a guy those names...

That's what my ex told me.

Hmm not true. I have several friends that call me "hun" or "sweetie". Its just their personality to be more affectionate to people.

Yeah, but calling your partner by it is different. It''s a whole different issue. It's like, you gotta marry ur girl before you can call her wife. You gotta be with her to bring meaning to the names.

its an american affection thign that I don't relaly understand either! I think that it's quite cute for a while but if you use it too much it gets annoying.
