hahah thanks for all the advice people. no im not getting a dell After all the consideration though, i think im going to wait. Although this device is for my mom, im going to use it one day to play flight simulator X on it and im going to dual screen it. Plus this will probably be the last time i build a computer for a longggg time. So im making this one count. AFter some research i've concluded to wait for the following reasons: 1) Direct X 10.1 is coming out and current hardware may not support 10.1 abilities when Vista SP1 comes out, see page one for article source. 2) Intel and AMD is coming out with new cores Penryn for intel and AMD 65nm fabrication before years end. IF i buy now im at the end of a phase. ITs like buying an ipod when the next gen is coming out. I'll just wait. I have another good computer at home that they can use for now. I truly think i can take advantage of quad core when opportunity shows itself. I sometimes do video editing and it'd be nice to have some music running, web pages, dual screen, and stuff all at once working on it so yea. -Thanks everyone.
^good choice, waiting, this end of year will be jam packed of new tech like you said, best wait it out and see who is the winner first
I've heard that the difference between DX10.1 and DX10 will be minimal, just a few small changes that won't really affect gaming. Also, DX10.1 will only start to come out or supposedly work when Vista SP1 comes out, which people are speculating to be early next year. For me, I would just get the DX10 rather than DX10.1 if u really need a comp now.
darn... i misread the article and thought the two formats were not compatible... sorry for the misinfo nunubutt
All my computers are based on there parts: - Intel CPU Technology - Asus Motherboard - Antec cabinet - Chill Inovation PSU - ATI Graphics
your parts selection looks good....but I am skeptical about ANTEC power supplies. I've had more failure on ANTEC Power Supplies then anyother brand. Try to look for Thermaltake or CoolerMaster power supplies. But also consider in investing in a Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro heatsink...they are cheap, better then stock fans and cool alot better.
another alternative to a psu is the FSP (forton) power supplies. they're relatively cheap yet reliable. FSP
Get a better PSU, i got a 680W HIPER psu, but i needed it to power my 1950AGP and the bunch of usb stuff coming out of my PC. i agree with fearless_fx, if u can, just get a dell, saves u a lot of hassle. Don’t pay to much attention to pc's you get all the latest stuff for £1000 and it will fall to £500 next week and be considered mediocre in performance (slight exaggeration). To think that games will be coming out that will require 2 GPU’s in your pc is crazy, I wont be doing that until it becomes VERY affordable, rather save for my car
you need a 680W for a ATi 1950!!! i thought a 500W would be ample... maybe ur running like a million HDDs -lol only the beasts such as the 8800GTX usually needs 600-700W psu. and the SLi GTXs, were talking 1KW territory
After some thought, i might end up getting a new comp. I'll sleep over it for the next few days. As for the case, i might end up getting a different case. I've never liked PSU's that come with cases, they're usually crappy? In any case if i get after market case i'd go at least 600 watt or more right now, but that dx10 issue is really bothering me. although the effects are minimal, just having it not work can be a pain in the ass later as we all know what an ass vista can/might be. i'm just afraid dx10.1 cards might require new mobo's then i can't even switch into it later. but we'll see. as a side note, dchc, im usually an AMD guy but intel just as too much of a leg up right now. if anyone doesn't know i was doing reading the past few days and intel's going to be trying to follow a 2 year architecture cycle, so that means every 2 years they are going to change their core architecture. the 1st year they'll add minor changes and the year after that they'll change the architecture again. thats intel's press release on their 2-year cycle which should be ahead of AMD for the next 3-5 years, which is kinda sad. I was rootin for the underdog. in any case, there's no way to own a fast comp through cpu. If dx10 wasn't a problem i could care less about quad core or dual core i'd be jumpin on a new comp right now. It's dx10 thats holding me back. sigh. if anything i'll wait another year.
i personally don't like to build my own computer, since i have to find the parts and build it myself and then if something goes wrong it will be very difficult to find out what the problem is as it may be a specific part (hardware) or software problem so really a bit too much trouble i rather have someone build it for me as if something goes wrong it basically their problem plus you have a warranty this is a good site you can check out, you get to choose your parts but do some research before you choose your parts, this is quite cheap as well like with the like of dell if you have them to build it with the same parts uk based: http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ us based: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/
look if your always afraid to buy cause whats round the corner, you will never end up buying tech moves so fast, that as soon as you buy something new, a few months down the line, a better version will be out DX10.1 is just like DX9a , b and c good quote
i have the antec sonata III. i hate it cos the case fan is not silent (even on the lowest fan speed setting) .. apart from that its quite an ok case. Although the rubber stands on the bottom is only glued onto the case so it is extremely easy for it peel off. although u can just stick it back on, it's just doesnt feel like a good build
from the comp theory I have learned, the most efficient/value is duo core. even if you add a few more cpu, it will only go a little faster. I remember it as amdhal's law...
i probably wont be going with the antec case anymore. i might go bs case with aftermarket PS. in any case. yea im probably gonna get a comp just dont know what im putting in it anymore. maybe a new vid card and maybe some other less expensive parts. in any case dragon, i love building computers. its a hobby, but more importantly i know im getting quality parts without premium price if i do the labor myself. there's warranty's on individual parts anyways.
