ok i see.. but what about in this case.. lets take one step at a time... say religion is as what you said: set of beliefs and say science is set of proven facts and proven theories and hypothesis that everyone agrees upon. agreed?
following my last post, God does fall under religion, as you said.. but how does it fall under science? so that it explains the nature of the universe? see, that contradicts the definition of science, (proven facts, and unanimous agreement)
lol. i don't know who coined the term; however, Christians assume God is god of the Universe. since it is written in the Bible --
Well, well, well. I cannot help but budge in... -devil Notice sth very peculiar with M_G's post? I'll highlight it! put religion aside and seek the God of the universe. First sentence, he said to put aside RELIGION and seek God of the universe. Ok so fine, he's saying try to seek a god/ a higher being/someone above you. I can accept that. But guess what! In the next line ... he goes... after all it could be your eternal life at stake if it isnt just a way to make people feel better. What does he mean by eternal life at stake?!?!?! Ahem, this just sounded to me AGAIN, like a threat of eternal damnation and what not, if you don't believe in HIS God. AKA Jesus AKA Christianity. It just doesn't make sense to me when someone tells you to put aside religion and then in the next line, say that you might be putting ur eternal life at stake... I had a good laugh there, thanks for providing the joke.
guys.... lets not gang up on him... i think it will be more productive if we have one on one conversations... LOL so one of you, should talk with apollon lol that way its fair...
@Apollon: Okay, so Christian has their God as the God of the Universe... But then what happens to master_g's comment: So is it a not-so-subtle way of saying "go be a Christian"? My translation: "Put your (false) religion aside and seek the God of the universe (via Christianity)" no? Since God of the Universe IS the Christian God (according to you at least) and as far as I know, not all religions believe in their God having created the universe. Wow, I think dann should learn that sale pitch technique. Serious.
agreed. np, master_g. rite. there is a thin line between science and religion. however, lets take the big bang theory for example. it is supposely a proven fact that the universe came into existence through this phenomena; however how was it started? scientist comes up with more theory and more theory ... hypothetical analysis and all conjucture. how far is that from religion? not so far. since God isn't able to be proven expect through a personal note. the existence and the reason for the big bang theory is all unproven as well. therefore, science isn't far from religion.
"God" cannot explain the universe, as he is not a valid scientific explanation.. Christians "believe" that God created the universe. By believing, it is considered religious. do you agree? and i agree with you sometimes science is wrong, but the majority of the time, science is correct. religion isnt proven as often as science.. and the big bang is merely ONE of those events... now if it had been mistaken MANY times, then yes, it would be religion...
no dont worry dann but thanks for that. by God i can handle whatever anyone can puts my way. to all who chose to read my posts. Thats my belief, im surprised it still surprises you. if you dont believe it then thats fine. i was assuming she had no belief in God, i may have been wrong though
@Apollon: Wow, I think I was speechless for a moment there. Just WOW. Spare me the false analogy between science and religion. Religion base on faith, blame the victim, while Science base on fact and changes according to observation. Science is much more forgiving to the so-called controversial new ideas: Was the world flat? Was the Earth the centre of the universe? If Science IS a religion, we would still remain in the medieval understanding of the world around us as we just claim everything which does not fall in accordance with the so-called Science (I said it with clenched teeth, you see) is "a test from the devil" or "hearsay" But instead of brushing those controversial ideas aside as "hearsay" and forget about them, Science investigate and renegotiate the treacheous water that is knowledge. Science is willing to change according to facts, organized religion doesn't. And THAT is the reason why I am not into organized religion.
master_g, i was hoping that you can answer the questions i had to ask, without putting them aside.. it felt very offensive, so thats why my frustration rose..
dann, dont get offended when a person chooses not to answer your question. you ask a question and its the persons choice to answer without feeling like they must answer. were all adults here yeah you called me a coward (due to frustration) and thats fine, lets call it quits
MASTER_G AND APOLLON i have questions for you both.. Is there anything wrong with science? Can we agree that "God and the universe" is merely a set of beliefs among Christians? Can we also agree on the fact that today's world runs on scientific explanations as opposed to religious beliefs?
Oh, so now " i'm to those who chose to read my posts"? You can't even quote my name properly or you just can't spell it right? Lol. Anyway, I wasn't surprised at what YOU believe. I am just amused you could put that in a sentence together with the first one... Ie asking people to PUT ASIDE RELIGION, then in the next line, u threaten with eternal damnation. lmao You should just say in the first line "U must believe in christianity..." How hypocrite can u be, i wonder?
dann your questions are gona start making me preach again and some people aint gona like that. dont ask me about science lol, call me a fool if u must but i only care for the word of God. lol im a hypocrite now :(
I wonder if Christians are like Naturalists... When they are sick, they pray to get better and refuse treatment because one should have faith in God instead of these false religion called Science now, wouldn't it?
lol im a hypocrite now :( babyrain, ill admit, many times my flesh wants to rise to the occasion and throw back a couple insults but im not. By God ill stay strong and wont resort to that.
@Hiake: They are. My fren died of leukemia coz they wouldn't get her a blood transfusion. They prayed instead...
wow. religion is not science and sciene isn't religion. i know that. however, religion bridges the gap where science cannot answer. like what happens after death? is there a God? how are we created? etc etc etc. yes, science can be used to explain some aspect of life ... however, there are some that are not able to be explained without a higher cause. religion simply gives satification when this gaps are made by science and humans.
