@hiake what i meant by open-minded is that one should view another person's belief without the sterotypical analysis that is derived through other people's influences. open-minded Christians = oxymoron. lol. idk. the term Christianity was given by the Roman Empire -- b/c they didn't know why to characterize this new growing group of individuals. however, essencely, Christians believe that it is the personal relationship that is the most important. without it, we would have nothing really to base our belief on. It is the personal relationship between an individual and God that is make the most impact -- ask any Christian. what is the most important aspect of being a Christian? I am sure the answer will be the personal relationship one has with Christ.
@master_g: The largest one, yes. But Christianity is strike quite a record as a organized cult in North America (more Christians than Catholics) @apollon: In that case, I guess "open-minded" is a myth, because we THINK and PRECEIVE the world and its parts according to previous knowledge, which without experience is all "stereotyping"...
so in north America its a cult as its larger than Catholicism, and in south America its not a cult because it smaller than Catholicism?
well have your way.lol it's what you beleve and thats right, but i also beleve if you say something the wrong way. you can make someone hate our God because you tryed to give them too much too soon. i don't beleve someone will go to hell if they don't know God. but that is my beleve and not your's,thats what the 1000 year's are for ppl who don't beleve. and didn't are wasn't ment to understand Gods word in this world age. and no one is in hell because there is no hell yet. Jesus told us about Lazarus and the rich man. this is all in heaven, the ppl that didn't know God is on the other side of the gulf. all waiting for judgment sure, but they also will have there chance to be saved. God wouldn't be fair.IMO if he didn't give these ppl a chance to be saved so to speak and live in heaven. but i beleve you can mess up someone's way to God. so IMO you mind be making someone hate God when there's no need. will this human go to hell because of you no but i do beleve God will not be happy with such a Christian, but it's only my beleve and i don't realy want to get into this fight to tell you honestly.lol
No in general organized religions are cults. Be it large or small. Just that I pointed out the largest part so that some may be proud to be part of such a cool and rewarding cult.
nah that aint rite, a protestant is not a catholic basically. they protested against Catholicism. mgfcortez, yes we have different beliefs, but if a person wont accept the judgements of God today then they wont accept it tomorrow or next year. i dont believe in a second chance as ive not yet seen it in the bible hence my urgency with the matter. its a Christians duty to preach the word, but how a person takes it is between them and God.
i hear that far too often. Christianity being a cult. fine, by definition it is a cult. that doesn't undermine its teachings and doctrines. its just a term.
@apollon: LOL, it's true though, by definition Christianity, or any given religion, is a cult. And even though it doesn't undermine its teachings or doctrines. In fact it wasn't my intention to undermine the hypthetical validity of its teaching or doctrines, that title just points out the glaring fact that Christianity isn't rationally any different from any number of cults. In turn, it proves that Science is NOT a religion as Science in fact is not a cult I've made my point.
science has many many theories that have not been proven, in that respect its a belief as lots of things are believed but not proven, so when science tries to explain the unknown with all its theories it becomes a cult imo
wow. who revived my thread? hehe. anyways, skim-read up to page 4 and decided that i didn't want to read every single little conversation; especially the mini-debate going on. so, anyone want to clue me in on what's happening/what are your questions? i noticed master_g was called a hypocrite? and my two cents: i don't think of science as a religion. you can make it out to be one but don't have to. some people will say everything scientific must be right and some may even "follow" scientific theories. excuse me if i'm not explaining it clearly (i'm bad at explaining things). for me, science merely provides evidence and in a way, explains things such as gravity in terms that humans can understand/work with.
You, sir, are a fucking fruitcake. I went away from PA for a day to think about the deeds i have wrongly committed. I thought it through, I've understood my mistakes, and it angered me to see a religious follower like yourself act like such a child. You call yourself a child of God. Dont make me laugh. I tried to aid you to understand foreign beliefs, well at the cost of another friend i cared about. We tried to help you see different views on the same topic. Instead, what do you do? You laugh straight into my face with your "lol dann". Do you really think God would want a child of His to be so hypocritical like you? Do you really think God would want a child so ignorant, closed-minded, and unbelievably stubborn? God does not mind if non-believers do not follow His ways, but He DESPISE believers who try to convert others to follow his ways, and believers who defend the wrong interpretation of His ways. Others calling you hypocrite are correct. You, sir, are a simple hypocrite. You snake your way through other's beliefs, attacking weak points you believe can help "defend" your beliefs. This is not what God wants. I tried to help you, but you laugh in my face. I made an error that nearly cost me my friendship with another, while trying to help you, whose behavior i find despicable. Is it not also in God's saying: "Make friends with thy enemy?". I did that, and instead, i get laughed in the face with the "lol dann". That is just hypocritical. You are hypocritical. You are a disgrace to religious believers. I am ashamed to ever have tried to help you at all, and I regret what I have done that almost cost me something important. Do you know Michelangelo's famous painting? On one side are non-believers. On the other side, they are Christians. I wanted to achieve what you see in the painting. I guess I failed. Laugh all you want. In the end when the time comes "you will be judged by God".
Well, on the condition which God DOES exist and will be there to judge them when the time comes that is... And I regrettably report that some people are not very gracious when a helping hand is offered to them... Just can't help but get the last word/laugh.
I always thought that picture depicted Adam (humanity) trying to reaching God. but idk. anyways, dann don't take it too personally. i don't think master_g meant any harm. for all we know, he could have been laughing at something else you said ... since he didn't specifically quote your "apologizing to BabyRain's" post. however this is only conjecture. -shrug if it worth anything ... THANK YOU, dann FOR TRYING TO BRIDGE THE GAP. -thumbs up- Dann, the PA's Religious Humanitarian.
Totally so.. !!! Well what's the point of trying to 'bridge the gap' anyway? When someone believes sth ignorantly without taking the trouble to understand others' beliefs, there wouldn't be any understanding to reach for. Remember my posts on MY beliefs and some prick could totally misquote me? That proves it; that if you write any 'essays' on your own beliefs, people are just going to ignore them. The first step to reach an understanding is taking the trouble to finding out about others' beliefs, which the person is NOT interested in anyway. So... So no point trying to bridge any gap when there isn't anyone at the other side of the bridge.. get what I mean?
