Very possible. Some cantonese speakers have an accent so it may affect their canto pinyin. Like on IMs, british people seem to write what as wot while canadians write what as wat.
yea.. some of e romantised canto is really hard to udnerstand.. given tat i dun speak canto myself. i guess e problem is cos they try to romantise their spoken canto.. and everyone might spell it different. but for pinyin, there is already a system in place to understand the words..

No, don't try -- stick to either English or go to those Cantonese-pinyin forums to test your faults there. BTW, who are you referring to by "common"? -nono I second the OP and personally find it annoying when I see it too, though it's inevitable since this is an "Asian" forums. I can understand if the person uses the pinyin to sound out something he/she doesn't know in English, but if it comes out of the blue, I'm like W T F? ^ If you're refering to the pinyin Candyshots have posted, ok I agree I didn't understand all of her pin yins, but keep in mind she's originally from Sweden? (that's what I was trying to make clear that people from non-English speaking countries will use a sligthly different spelling for the Canto pinyin)
My point of the matter was not whether it's spelled correctly, incorrectly (is there even a proper way to type Cantonese pinyin?) or where they're from. so...some people don't like the use of incomprehensible cantopinyin... it doesn't really bother me.... i don't really understand yale or something else... does anyone has got a solution for this?? adding to the forumrules and prohibit the use of cantopinyin?? mandate the use of characters =P make a standardlist of the most frequently used phrases? introduce a standard....and let everone use a standard PA cantopinyin system?? -unsure
the solution is that SOME people should make sure they are pronouncing the words correctly before trying to use cantonese ping yum... yes there is a standardized method of cantonese ping yum... otherwise, the same last name could be spelt in 1400 different ways... ie: my last name: 林 can be spelt one of two ways - Lam or Lum... you cannot spell it Lom or Lem and expect people two remotely know what it is. another example is 無得頂's signature: "錢唔係萬能...但係冇錢就萬萬不能" you can say "chin m hai maan nung... daan hai mo chin jau maan maan bat nung" if you say something close to that like "cheen ng hi man lung... dan hi moe chin zhau man man but lung", that is acceptable... something completely off like "chi em huy mun nan... tan huy moe chi zhou mun mun buh nan" is 100% UNACCEPTABLE
by the way, "chin m hai maan nung... daan hai mo chin jau maan maan bat nung" is 100% the standardized method of cantonese pinyin in most sources of literature...
haha, you were obviously the main "aggressor," if you will in that "battle." I'm surprised there aren't any replies from those who type like that to defend their positions ... not to call anyone out, but mainly hongkongdouchebag and there was a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head.
jwslam: -spam just edit your post instead of making another one. so what if you really don't want to butcher the language but want to say something that only chinese words will describe accurately? and it's not like people want to type it wrong but (like someone else said) they might be from outside of HK and have different spelling or are influenced by incorrect pronunciation/spelling. so what can those people do?

see..ngan sun cant not be translated...so i would have to use the pinyin ngan sun in order to show my expression in words... and i didn NOT pinyin it wrong...
i can understand most of the pinyin that PA members have typed. but i do agree it is kinder annoying when they type like something totally i dont understand.
