Thisdamngood .. your turn sounds legal to me so I will not pay a penny. In fact, I am not gonna pay my ticket either. My lawyer friend has sent me some good defense for my case so yeah, not gonna worry anymore .. lol .. I am all happy now.
Agreed, as he was already within the intersection having entered on green. The classic definition of running a red light, is to have entered the intersection after the light turns red. I suspect it has now to do more with an automated system that is not being carefully and reliably reviewed by traffic officers before the mailed summons is posted. If it happened the way that he stated, the should fight it. New York also has left turn only lanes, that allow a timed duration for left turns in addition to the other four points travel (so there are three sequences for traffic lights, To-Fro traffic, Left-Right traffic, and Left Turn Only traffic). The science behind left turns is noted to be one of the most perplexing aspects of motor travel since the invention of the automobile, and it must be recognized that each state adheres to their own ideas as to what is the most beneficial according to their traffic patterns. Another funny thing is that in New York, we get a lot of drivers from New Jersey, who are habitually used to their Standard OK to Turn Right After Full Stop if Traffic is Clear laws, while we can only do so at posted intersection that specifically allow it. They always get tagged for running red lights because they don't realized that NY law is slightly different. But the one thing I do agree with overall, is that there should be a national standard on duration of Yellow lights, and a brief but simultaneous all points red (similar to but certainly not as extended like they do in Japan for pedestrian traffic). This brief moment allows all traffic stuck in the intersection to safely clear the box before opposing or lateral traffic starts.
Wow...and I thought California was tough. IMO, it sounds like he didn't pull forward enough. According to the links Ralph posted, the cameras are triggered by a car crossing the sensor zone. So even though Thisdamngood thought he crossed into the intersection, he may have stopped short of the sensor. I'm not sure if I'm interpreting your idea correctly but I think a longer pause between the time the light from 1 direction turns red and the 2nd to turn green would be ideal. A longer Yellow light would tempt drivers to shoot through the intersection to beat the light.
I am soo glad I live in the suburbs and not actually Toronto. I hate driving downtown Toronto, only done it like twice
you gotta be more precaution next time. the red light ticket camera is usually the camera on the pole near the tree. the camera pole is very noticeable. sometime the camera is hidden inside the red light. however, you can still tell, because the traffic look a little difference from the regular traffic. they also flashing a lot.
We have red light cameras in our city and they're suppose to be setup so if you're going slow, say 20km/h it won't trigger it. So turning left won't get you a ticket.
Red light cameras totally suck. I've seen people getting a pic taken for not stopping in time. They try to brake but then skid out of line a bit and SNAP SNAP.
You are always spray something on your license plate so that it reflects off your plate when the pic is taken!
yup seen that happen. some guy made a right when the lights turned red, and i saw the flash =/ Red light cameras suck... but hey, if your car did not face the camera, it should be ok... cuz they cant get ur license plate otherwise
pay for the pic and see if it's just your car, if there's another car you could contest it because they cannot prove which car ran the red and set off the camera.
Not only red light cameras, speed cams, average speed cams and portable police speed cams are lurking everday here in the UK they want your money and license points!
