ppl say im racist cause i hate mandarin ppl lol..i unno y but i don't like the language..some mandarin ppl r ok..the prety ones lol
lol very true, Microsoft Work is like the chopped down down version of Microsoft office. Also I learned in a anthropology class-study of human culture that race is a social construct which means that ppl created "race" also from the class if I learned anything, this too there's only one human race; just different ethno-cultural background.
I don't know the technical terms, but I think the whole "race" concept is the first (besides gender, of course) to identify a "us" and a "them" -- thus creating an "in-group" and "out-group" for differential interaction. And racism is the differential interaction base on this social construct of "race". For example, if one thinks all Chinese are good and all Whites are terrible liars, that creates the differential treatment of benevolence towards Chinese and malevolence towards Whites (in general) -- that's the basis of racism, but it is necessary as we cannot treat everyone we meet with the same amount of generosity -- altruism does not exist, remember Game Theory? It's always more beneficial to be the betraying one if you are not 100% certain that the other person will be acting in sync with you.
There is only one race: the Human race Damn, if this wasn't the internet I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.
racism is always a big problem in this society..but i think that racism growth up in some ppl because of parents or ppl around...because when u are raise by ppl who are racist u become like that too.. but if u khnow to make the difference in ur life and khnow what is what then u can go against that.... education=reduce the racism
I'd have to 100% disagree that racism or prejudice is something that is human nature. I firmly believe that it is a concept that is taught. I say this because for one, my mother and pop didn't know anything about racism till they moved to the states, then they realized how people were so ignorant.. I just had a conversation last Saturday with the owner of the meat shoppe that I go to (he's Albanian) he even said how he didn't know that people were racist until he came to America. I'm not saying that you shouldn't notice the differences of other type of people e.g the colour or facial features, you'd be blind to not notice that and there's nothing wrong with noticing it, but it becomes a problem when you group everyone together and label em as a thief or a liar, or violent and drunkard, just because a few in the race is like that.. Racism is a problem for people that never united as one with other races. My family that comes from the Caribbean and other friends that I know that are from there with a mixed heritage like mine, are not racist at all. On the other hand cultural differences, I think that is more of a problem for alot of people.. Well, that's my two cents.
We don't know about racism until we are subjected to it -- consider, back in early 1990s, Hong Kong people mocks their mainland relatives -- that is one form of racism too. When we are part of the main stream, in a homogenous society, we don't see racism since everyone is more of less the same (racially). Migration in such large scale doesn't happen until very recently (past few decades, maybe?), so before, nobody will know what racism is since there is no minority to be racist against. ^^b that's my 2 cents.
Ahh, I think I see your point. On the other hand, supposedly if everyone is the same (racially) then there is no one to single out to be racist toward? That is a different way to look at it.
I wish that will happen some day -- but I have a feeling that the people then, with "race" or "ethnicity" or "religion" out of the way, will be "racist" (or more fittingly, discriminate) against fat people, short people, tall people, long-haired people etc etc-unsure The concept of different-ness and same-ness is all in our mind. If everyone believes (sincerely) that all humans are the same despite the different colour and size and any number of attributes, then perhaps we can eliminate racism and other discriminations once and for all. I guess that make me a pessimist, no? >.<
Ahhh!!! I'm soo happy!!! Just got my shipment of art supplies!!!! **LuckYY*** lol Back on topic. I was thinking the same exact thing, if it is not the race, or cultural differences, then it will be whether the individual is fat, or rich or poor.. It goes on and on sad to say, but that is reality. Like in my parents country, its not race that is a factor, it is money, (rich or poor) Pessimist? Hardly, if you really hope that people can start to view other races as just what they are, a human being, then you're definitely an optimistic person.. In my opinion at least.
Everybody got a thing or two that is against another race....... as long as you call them with racial names you are RACIST...
Racism is everywhere, and it's always going to exist. I'm from New York, which is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures, but there is just as much racism here as anywhere else. People just naturally gravitate towards people who are similar to themselves. So there is a lot of ignorance from not getting to know people of other races. Recently there has been a lot of controversy at my school over someone(s) throwing Korans in the toilets. We can ourselves try not to be racist, and teach our kids not to be racist. If that doesn't work we can keep breeding with other races until we are really just the human race.
Wow DuchSauce that was deep -worship Easy to say but hard to do... Nice to see a fellow New Yorker...
i think that everyone is racist regardless of how hard they try not to be, but some people are just not as ignorant as other.
