Personally I don't beleive in any religion but I think committing suicide is a sin. Why must one choose suicide to end one's life. Something can't be that bad that you can't overcome it.

To commit suicide is one of the most stupid things in the world.....face the problems...everything works out at the end, if things havent worked out....its not the end

    haha nice reasoning

i used to think about it... :(
    LOL
    but not anymore :)
i realized that suicide is the coward's way out and i am not a coward. It a way for a person to end all their problems and not solve them. I would rather be a man who wins over his problem then try to take the cowards way out.

suicide (in christian beliefs) is a sin, your not valuing your life that god has provided for you, it's dishonoring the gift he has given to you

i dont think of people you sacrifice there lives for others (such as either one of us dies, so that the other can live) should be fall under suicide

but then again, suicide is could be one of those words that to each person has it's own definition like love

    that aside

    oh another note

something i want to point out

if someone wants to commit suicide and succeeds, people will look at him as a coward, as someone who was to afraid to face difficulty

then again, if someone wanted to commit suicide and failed, people will also look at him as a coward, as someone who didn't have enough guilts to pull through it

    that's just a funny issue

one more thing to bring up

statics say that 1 in 5 people have considered suicide
it's funny, when brought up the statistic and watched how people reacted, you could tell if they had considered it (it's a cleaver way of finding out without needing to directly ask someone)
anyways, and i noticed alot more of my asians reacted to (yes i have considered it) and as you guessed it, less of my non asian friends

for example, when i said that with some asian friends, one of them reacted "wow only 1 in 5?"
and with one of my caucaison friends, when i mentioned it, she freaked out "I WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER consider something like that, THAT'S HORRIBLE"

We are born naturally and let's die naturally too.
    Not suicide.

  9. In my religion, suicide = killing. Thus, its a sin no matter what the circumstances are.

I have never heard of suiciding for self-sacrifice?! Maybe you are referring to a situation where one would haf to sacrifice oneself in a desperate situation, perhaps to save another's life? Then in that case, it's called a sacrifice; not a suicide. A suicide is deemed as taking one's own life willingly; when in a desperate measure where you have to 'sacrifice' that is not voluntary anymore.
And Buddhism nvr said anything about suiciding being a 'sin'. It's just something that one should not do.

As a Buddhist myself, I believe in reincarnation but not the typical Heaven and Hell. I believe the Earth itself is a place to learn and therefore one what would term as 'Hell'... although literally it would be more like a School.

I do believe that each of us has a certain life span allocated to us on this Earth, and that we are meant to undergo and encounter various events before we meet Death.

Suicide IMO, is NEVER, NEVER justified.
If one commits suicide, one just gets slapped back to this Earth to 'enter class' once again. So one cannot escape their responsibilities just by cutting their throats or slashing their wrists.
Never contemplate suicide; because it does not help you. The person who commits suicide will HAVE to come back in WORSE conditions. (because one is meant to learn their lessons through some events which are 'fated').
When one is in the purgatory stage viewing their past mistakes; they then make their decisions to come back as better persons and learn what one has to learn on Earth... Thus some of the hardships encountered are meant to be 'lessons to be learnt' and if one escapes by suicide; they get sent back straight away.
If a person has wilfully ended his life on Earth before the allotted number of years by suicide, then that person has to return to Earth as fast as possible in order to serve out the unexpired time, just as if they were a convict who had escaped and had been recaptured, and had had a bit tacked on as an extra punishment... smile.gif
It is often the case that a baby who is born and dies perhaps a month or two after is the REINCARNATION of a person who has committed suicide rather than perhaps face two or three months of agony when they were dying from incurable, inoperable cancer.
The sufferer may have taken his own life two or three or perhaps six months or a year before he would have naturally died. But he STILL has to come back and serve out all the time which he tried to short-circuit.

A person who commits suicide is just postponing the day when one can be free of EARTH legitimately, you'd have to come back like an escaped convict who has been recaptured, and you are hurting no one but yourself at the end of the day.

Suicide is no answer because we came to this Earth for the purpose of learning, for the purpose of developing our immortal soul. We came to this Earth to face certain conditions, perhaps hardships of poverty, perhaps the great temptations which assail the rich, perhaps the heartaches of love etc. We come to this Earth and we choose our station according to the task we have to accomplish, and if we commit suicide, if we kill ourselves, we are like a shattered bowl, and if we shatter our bowl; how are we going to eat? (ie. if we terminate those lessons/hardships; how are we going to learn?)

Where did you get that from?-noclue The Bible? your own opinion of Christianity?
I would say in your example where you are mentally unstable; then you won't be consciously willing to take ur own life because you are unaware and therefore it's not considered as 'suicide'.

  11. as you know, the Christian faith is outlined in the bible. i look forward to hearing the chapter and verse that says

I've actually had thoughts of suicide before, but that was when I was a little mentally unstable. I think that suicide is a really bad way to go. Not only would it hurt the people around you, it would be such a waste of a life. I know people who feel like they have no reason to live anyways, but I think there is always a reason out there.

right, but what if the reason has gone?

    interesting topic.
i've always wanted to give an applause to those who commited suicide and successed.
it's not an easy mission tho.
people always say "it's more hard to live than to die".
if that's so, then why do people want to choose the difficult things?
and i think people always try to find an excuse for their cowardness (incl. myself).

Wah, you so long and have thought about suicide already? >.<

If i understand your question correctly, ppl choose to live because there is a meaning in life. There are hardships to endure, but also, there are moments of experienced or to experience joy and satisfaction. Suicide is not the final solution, it is merely an escape route. Should suicide attempt fail, the person would have to deal with it again. I have personally seen ppl being hosptialized 4-5 times because of suicide, each time it gets worst, from cutting wrist to performing seppuku (failed in the end). Why not give yourself a chance and make something out of life instead of mutliating oneself for no other reason than to make oneself suffer more?

I have no fear of death, my rationale comes from the fact that, if i were dead, its not like i would care about the fact i was no longer living. There is a certain appeal to the finality of 'ending it all'.

I do however, have a problem with suicide. Mostly because of it's inherit cowardice. Your death might give you release from all your troubles, but the individuals around you who care about you will have to deal with the emotional trauma of your death. Suicide, in my eyes, is the ultimate form of failure. The Japanese may have tried to rationalize and purport the idea of suicide as honorable, in the form of hari-kari or seppuku, but Its all bullshit. Suicide is the recourse of the coward. The path of an individual who has neither the strength nor the mental perseverance to overcome life's hurdles.

for me, to commit suicide is the same as killing, because you are taking away a life..
those people who commit suicide should go up to any hospital and see those patients who are struggling for their lives every day.
yet they want to take away their own.. saddening

This comes from my own experience.

Having a weak reality + Feeling everything is hopeless = Suicide

People who commit suicide are not stupid. They see the world differently than us. They see their life is hopeless. The truth is: We all make mistakes, and most of the time we can fix it and move on.

    Perception = Reality

I don't believe suicide should be considered a sin; it isn't. The reason people suicide is because there is nothing to live for. You certainly shouldn't name them off by calling them a coward or stupid, because they are less ignorant than you. Suicide isn't something that can be reasoned; but don't say how much impact it has on their family whatsoever. I would blame it on their family for not showing them that they actually do care about them; and NO, money isn't a way.
