i make my mandatory 15% tips but i hate it even if you're a waiter... al u do is your job and now you expect me to pay you for doing your hired responsiblity... i do it but i hate it.. esp the gratuity fee... >_< fyi: if you don't know how much to give always remember to double the tax. tips = to insure prompt service
Tipping for a lot of people is the majority of their paycheck and what they live on, ex. waiters, but I guess for a lot of things like coffee shops, taxi drivers, tipping is overrated.
The main reason to give someone tips is, that the person did his/her work good or the service was also great. You had a great time for dinning or drinking here so you give them some tips as a reward for caring and giving them a great time. Thats the main reason. other reasons could be 1. u don't like coins in your pocket 2. showing urself that ur wealthy 3. Because everyone also give them tips. But one thing is sure... if a person asks for tips its very wrong and a shame... its something like you'll get it or not... deal with it
i give tips depending on the niceness of the waitress/waiter.. if my food is quick and they're nice then i tip them more if not then i give what i think they should get for their service
i think you should tip regardless. people take a lot of stuff from others and they should be shown some appreciation
Tipping is now universally accepted but as some of you commented perhaps not so rampant in S E Asian countries except where there are tourists from the west. For good service, I will definitely tip but increasingly it has become a norm even when a beggar opens your car door. You do so because you do not want the guy to scratch the car if you dont' when you pull out. We need to be brave and only tip when the service provided exceeds our expectation.
it is now normal for North American's to tip. I hate it the most when they dont give you proper change so that you can give them a 15%r whatever...the bills they give back will be too much to leave but the coins are too little. Thats why i use credit cards so I can write down what I want.
You don't have to tip. It's not against the law if you don't. I eat out all the time, and I do tip, big, only if I feel like they put effort into giving me good customer service. Tipping is not a must, but it is polite in a sense that you recognize and respect that person's job or how well they served you. You don't have to tip if you don't want to... it's ok.
A tip is a reflection of you- regardless of whether you felt you were served well, you should always give the 15-20% minimum, especially at fine-dining establishments. It's a measure of class and respect for those who provide service.
I tip regardless of the service (unless if they were being rude, and the service was absolutely horrible). I think it's common courtesy nowadays, so people get pissed if you don't tip them. Especially at restaurants.
I think that tipping should be an appreciation (by free-will) of how you were treated @ a restaurant and etc. but I don't think that we should be force to tip a minimum percentage. I think that eventually if the waiter or waitress served someone well, the customer will tip them well. But the tipping trends are definitely getting out of hand. -sweat
Usually at the end of the bill where it says tip:____ I put, better lucky next time.. or Please Try Again
When I go to the salon, I usually tip about 50% to the person who cut my hair and about 25% for the person who washed my hair. This makes me sound like a baller, but I'm not. My haircut is $15, so I usually tip the woman $8-9, and the guy who washes my hair $3. When I go out to eat, I usually tip at least 20%. When I valet my car, I usually tip $2 before they park my car, and then another $1 when I get my car. I had a few friends who used to do the chinese restaurant valets, and it turns out that they didn't get paid and depended on tip money. So, if they park a car for a person and that person doesn't tip, then they just basically offered free services.
big baller with the 50% tips on haircuts... -lol. I seriously doubt I would ever do that unless I walk out and a bunch of people crowd around me and go holy shit thats a nice haircut ahahaah. I'm just wondering where's the other Tipping thread!? I'm pretty sure there was another one... I go retro... I go retro with these references -lol.
Wooohhhhh.....to me, tipping is only when the service really suprises me and not just satisfy me....why should I tip for satisfactory services when that is the bare minimum requirement????
