If i lived in Europe and wanted an environmentally friendly car, i would go for a VW Polo hands down. Buying a 50 thousand dollar 'eco-friendly' car is just douchebaggery. People who buy a new prius aren't doing so in order to save the world, they are buying one to massage their conscience. How can one justify spending 50K to buy an eco friendly Prius, rather than 13 thousand for an eco friendly VW Polo? Simple answer is they can't. I view the Prius much like I view Apple, little more than a status symbol. That said, I like apple products because of this very fact. I am a fucking poser, but atleast I am at terms with it. Don't kid yourself that your expensive eco-car is saving the world, save yourself tens of thousands of dollars by buying a 100 mpg diesel subcompact and then invest your thousands of dollars into saving the amazon rainforest or to stop the clubbing of baby seals.
Where the foooooooook do you guys get the $50k from???? b/c even at the top package, it cost $32k... now thats before tax... if it's bare min requirment, it's even cheaper (~27k) and you guys gotta realize that it's a family car (if you are ever in one, it's roomy as hell), not s small size vehicle... and last time I check, the price are pretty average...
^ you need to keep in mind that this website isn't just composed of people from north america man.... The Toyota Prius in france costs 33 thousand euros. Which is equivalent to 51 thousand dollars CND or like 50 thousand USD. A maxed out Prius on the French website is 36 thousand euros... 55 thousand dollars CND.
^ When I state the price... It is in Canadian Dollars... Then wouldn't the price be less in Euros? or are you stating that they using the dollars as euros? b/c that's messed up
dollars are dollars, euros are euros. I generally convert currency in my head and then speak in terms of dollars since im canadian.
I love the new Bluetec diesels coming from VW. I wish they would import the TDI polo and passat. That said, I have had a Prius for a month. It's a very nice gadgety car. It's almost like I was operating a computer game than driving. It was pretty fun getting 62 miles a gallon (yes, I did some hypermiling). It's like owning an ipod or a powermac to me. I don't own either, but I can understand why the hip crowd would like it.
