Yup, agree with you there - go to HK. Or at the very least, speak it as much as possible to other Chinese people. In my personal opinion, Chinese school is total crap - it doesn't do much because you're always surrounded by kids who don't really want to learn, and the instruction level is also crap (ie. teachers and text). You learn many irrelevant words.
Yea I cna ralte with that... one thing (for me) when learning a language I have to learn it not by textbook but in a real matter, watch there TV shows/music/well studdy vocab..but text books don't really work for me, I have to surround myself by the language.
Haha.. the fastest way is to develop an interest for it. Once you are interested, you learn the fastest, no matter which method. Sounds obvious, but its the truth. I'm picking up cantonese this way too: I watch canto series cos I think it sounds better than chinese. At first I really need to read the subtitles. Now I can roughly understand even without reading. I think building up your interest is most important, and watching tv series is quite fun anyway. Hope you succeed!
for me, if you're from a chinese background it should a lot be easier if your relative of any family members know how to speak chinese. speak with them often.
usually songs... like look at the pinyin/lyrics my chinese is not that great since im born in canada but i find the fastest way is to watch the dramas and read the chinese subs while hearing it but if you're truly interested.. why not ask your parents for a chinese tutor?
I guess the University of Tampere has something to offer. The contacts are: Tel. +358 3 355 111 Fax +358 3 213 4473 kirjaamo@uta.fi
yeah, i agree with heaps of ppl here... chinese school is crap. i went to chinese school for abt 10 years since i was 6. i learnt nothing. last 3 years i started learning chinese coz i wanted to be able to sing when we go karaoke... (without every1 laughing at me) at first u kinda just memorise the words, but if u learn it with the chinese lyrics, u can learn chinese really really fast... now even if i learn a new song i can sing 80% of it straight away..
haha yeah the best bet if for you to go and live with people who speak the language. Just totally immerse yourself in it haha if anything go here http://www.learn-chinese-through-music.com/
Yeah, I totally agree with the fact that move out to a Chinese speaking country or neighborhood, and it'll force you to learn and speak it too. If that's not do-able, then listen to Chinese songs, watch Chinese series (they actually work). Of course, you'll have to really get a book that teaches you too, and you'll have to be dedicated. That's how I'm learning Korean now ^^
i learned chinese at the same time i learned english, but i do know some good ways to learn chinese. you could always learn chinese from watching tv with subtitles so you'll follow what they're saying and read the words. try reading books with someone who knows the words so you can ask them if you dont know.
I'd say about 99% of Chinese school teachers suck..., especially when my current teacher taught me more in 3 months than my past 7 years with other teachers.. However, associating with Chinese people and watching Chinese programs work well too
What is this Chinise I hear? In a more seriousn note. Theres no method really to learn Chinese quickly. Your best bet is to go to the country itself meet some people who speak it and generally start talking it.
