I would say tennis is the more demanding sport as you have to train yourself both metally and physically. I play tennis a lot and it sometimes gets though, even after playing tennis you must do stretches or stuff like that to avoid injuries.

I would have to say mixed martial arts (not sure if it's a sport).. Physically, you have to be on your game or you're gonig to get beaten up. Mentally, you have to be pretty strong to go into a cage/ring and face the possibility of getting choked out/limb broken/beatin up.

Surely playing squash has to be ranked higher than badminton, the amount of sweat you expire in it is unbelievable.

But back to the original question, i think tour de france is officially the touchiest sport (Soz got no source, just something i read from somewhere)

I think Formula 1 pilots/drivers are among the athletes who have it very demanding.

They have to be physically and mentally fit and they condition their bodies just like fighter pilots do. Putting their bodies through pressures of up to 5-Gs many times during a 2-hour race requires strength that a lot of people may not give them credit for (Don't forget testing, practice and qualifying sessions).

To be able to drive their cars on the same line over and over again with tight consistency requires a high level of discipline to maintain such a concentration during the 2-hour battle.

Of course, I only speak as an observer.

I think rally car racing is the most demanding sport by far, they blaze through most of the courses that might contain parts that aren't even roads at 180+ mph, the driver has to anticipate possible rock, tree, animals, or even crazy spectators that might pop out in front of the car at any second, he/she also has to launch over dirt mounts, going through water/creeks, drive on dirt, gravel, mud, asphalt, or snow. The event is held day/night, in all weather and over all types of terrains in different countries. While the driver has to finish the stages of the course as fast as he/she can while keeping the car in one piece, the co-driver has to read out directions constantly, one mistake could mean rolling down a hill, hitting a tree, or going straight into a wall of rocks. When the car has mechanical problems or accidents along the course, the driver and co-driver have to fix the problem(s) themselves in 20 minutes before a penalty is given which could cost them to place for points (each race the drivers earn points by what place they got and at the end of the season, the points are tallied up to determine the champion and the winning team). Compare to other car racing, rally is the most extreme and demanding of the drivers since they have to give more than their all both physically and mentally for each and every race.

I think rugby is the most physical and mental sport. They play the game knowing that they could be sent to the hospital and yet they wear no gear

i would say wrestling and UFC mixed martial arts, day in and day out they have to battered their body and mind, to endure the pain, and they are always on the road, so they cant sleep well, eat well and most of all they are always away from their beloved family.
