Ad exec stuns girlfriend with RM54,000 marriage proposal

    By CHOONG MEK ZHIN

PETALING JAYA: For this Valentine’s Day, businesswoman Kelly Tan E Li got an unexpected marriage proposal.

It was “wrapped” in a RM14,000 diamond ring and a huge billboard advertisement in which her boyfriend publicly declared his intentions.

“This is the biggest surprise of my life. And, the whole thing started as a very normal Wednesday. We went out for dinner and my boyfriend David Tan insisted on sending me home.

“The date ended very late, close to midnight. We got talking in the car and as we drove along the LDP in Kelana Jaya, he got excited and asked me to look at an “interesting” billboard by the side of the road,” said Kelly, 24.

As David was working in an advertising firm, Kelly assumed he wanted to show her some fancy new advertisements.

“I looked and was stunned. David’s picture was on the board! And beside his picture, were the magic words 'Kelly Tan E Li, will you marry me?'

“I was so shocked and could not speak for about 10 minutes. He finally smiled when I told him 'yes',” said Kelly.

And the RM40,000 billboard was not the only surprise.

Immediately after Kelly said yes, David pulled out a box and inside, was a sparkling diamond ring.

“I cannot ask for a more memorable Valentine’s Day. I really want to thank David for this unique proposal,” said Kelly, a nail salon owner in Bangsar.

David, 26, said he had planned this surprise for some time. He only wanted the best for Kelly.

The accounts executive said he deliberately proposed on Valentine’s Day so that they could remember this day with fondness in the future.

“I work in an advertising company and am always thinking out of the box to come up with new concepts and ideas. I wanted my marriage proposal to be unique,” said David.

He added that luck was definitely on his side for him to be able to book one of the billboards along the LDP, which were highly in demand.

“The fact that I managed to book one especially on Valentine’s Day is so lucky. Hopefully, our marriage will be equally amazing,” said David.

The couple met at a friend’s house during Chinese New Year three years ago and started dating six months later.

David has already started planning for the wedding.

“It should be held sometime at the end of this year or early next year.

“I cannot wait to marry Kelly. She is an amazing woman and she deserves all the attention I shower on her,” he said.

dunno if its ok to post in old thread like this?
but the most "romantic" thing i did for a girl b4 was, for her bday i got her a really well thought gift, and surprised the hell outta her. the morning of, i decorated the inside of the trunk in my car, like lined the entire trunk with wrapping paper, and had happy b-day banner hanging off the trunk lid. then i had her present that i wrapped up in the middle, and i stuffed like 15 helium balloons in it. then when i went to her place for her bday party thing, i asked her to come outside to help me get something outta my car...and well i opened the trunk and u should get the rest of it rite? lol

i think the most memorable romantic moment with my boyfriend was when we had our first kiss xD --we had been going out for almost 4 months, and we still hadn't kissed (i'm more traditional i suppose hehe i wanted him to take the initiative xD ) so when we were visiting Boston, he had planned a special night out (since we were traveling with friends and they made other plans that night) we stayed at the Hyatt so it was really near the Charles River that goes through Boston, so he suggested that we take a walk before dinner and we stopped to admire the sunset and the river view from the bridge. And just as the sun was setting, with all the oranges, reds, purples and pinks flowing across the sky and water, he kissed me ^_^ for dinner, he brought me to a restaurant called the Top of the Hub which was at the top floors of the Prudential Center and offered a really great view of the city at night while we ate. we walked around the rest of the night in boston, enjoying the night life and then cuddling to sleep. just thinking about that day makes me all smiley xD

  9. i think the most romantic thing is to have him next to you on the sofa and just watching a movie and cuddle.
    nothing else beats that

knowing he is on your side is more than enough. actually it's enough. ho jeh!

watching a movie is romantic, lol meh, in my opinion, you dont need to do a lot or buy very expensive things to be romantic, lol i mean, that mostly works in movies :p , like the guy above said, lol spending time and enjoying it can be romantic :p

its just things u do. i haven't done much these days. just surprises and setting up the room in the mood. like candles and flowers and surprising her when she 1st walks in the room.

u can only do it few times then it gets boring.. :(

well i dont know if this is class as romantic but a girl gave me a box for my birthday in advance which contained a japanese tea cup as I like to drink japanese tea and anything to do with japanese stuff and on this cup are messages written with various meanings. And these 4 meanings she made a little bookmark and each bookmark is a little origami figure which she folded herself and stuck onto the bookmark and wrote in japanese of these meanings and their translation and then wrote a little letter with colour paper stuck onto it, to give it a nice image, explaining the meaning behind these markings on the cup. i thought it was really nice and and also she put so much effort into it spending 4 nights to make all this even though she works long hours. i thought it was sweet and in return on the same day we exchange gifts, i gave her an mp3 with French podcast lessons as she really wanted to learn French and added many songs of her favourite artists and a little French phrasebook and 2 little drawings which i hid inside the phrasebook. but we're not in a relationship so its not class as romantic ^^ so i wasnt sure if i shouldve posted it in here or not

Well, one thing that I did for my girlfriend was giving her a bear doll that TALKS!!

I recorded a "loving" speech in the bear doll and when press a button, she could hear what I have recorded earlier, which is the loving speech that I have prepared.

I also gave her a jar with 999 stars in it folded BY MYSELF!! Really, I folded ALL the stars by myself and it took 1 month.

    999 represents "long-lasting" in Chinese...

She cry when I told her that I fold all the stars by myself. I think that is very romantic.
