LOL....do I just hit them over the head with it? I do agree the iphone is pretty solid! LOL

Seriously, unless you are 16 with an iphone and want attract teeny boppers. Having an iphone won't really help you getting a girl. Cuz most likely the girl themselves would have an iphone and could careless what you have. And most games you can play with them are cross platform now, so that's no excuse either. LOL-bowroflarms

  3. Don't take it personally, when it comes to this topic, that's how I rage. I accumulate the irritation and Hulk it out. Though I do need to take some of the comment back, as that was a product of my irrationality.

I'm fully aware of this. That's the nature of business and it's not something new. But you see, the problem isn't Apple or Google, or whatever, the problem is that most Apple users adopt the following mindset:

"I don't know what Google offers, but I don't care, Apple is the best and Google sucks. I don't care that XYZ came out with technology 'A' first, Apple invented it therefore Apple is better".

Take a look at Siri. Siri consists of two main components: 1) Text-to-speech and 2) Wolfram Alpha.

Text to speech has been out since decades. Nothing new. Apple took it and applied it. I'm perfectly fine with that.

Wolfram Alpha is a third party contextual search engine. Apple partnered with Wolfram Alpha, I'm fine with that.

What people don't realize is that the only thing Apple has done is take two existing technologies and put them together like a child puts puzzle pieces together. They go "Oh, Apple invented TTS. I don't know what Wolfram Alpha is I don't care".

That's the bullshit I'm irritated about. Corporate law and politics is the nature of the beast. But people should fucking TRY to understand the reason for being, and not take retarded claims out of their asses. And the reason why I said Apple is treated like a God is because these same users take the word of Apple like a Christian takes the word of the Bible. If God existed, he must be one hell of a marketing engineer. Whoever hires him will make a SHIT load of money.

So though I own an HTC Nexus One, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a Samsung TV and everything you've said I own, AND I'm fully aware that all of these products exist due to a percentage of patent infringements, I understand the source of the infringements and give proper credit where it is due. I told you, I praise Apple for their business ability. I give them credit. My irritation is targeting those who 1) do not seek the knowledge of things and 2) do not seek to understand the reason of things.

    That is all.

edit: I should probably take a chill pill lol or I'm going to have a bad time for the rest of my life lol

Dan, why are you letting this bother you so much? Life's too short to get all irate over shit like this. You have to understand very few people would care how Apple created their products. You think the 16yr old kid with an iphone really cares if the iphone camera was a stolen technology? Or my grandmother would give a damn if Siri is a very simple or complicated technology? As long as it does what she asks, she's a happy camper! The people that do care, are most likely more educated people who are in the field, such as developers, scientists, engineers, lawyers, and politicians etc. The general public just wants a cool gadget that works and can impress their friends. They don't give a shit what's behind the scenes and what a company has to go through to get their product on the market. And the general public are the fanboys you are referring to. They are the ones that praise one product over another without any real knowledge. But you shouldn't hold that against them, it's not their job to understand. It's their job to spend money and buy the product for us to get newer and better product in the future! I'm just one of the lucky ones that get to play with the latest and the greatest gadgets because the company I work for are heavily invested in technology. I get to test products that are not even out in the market yet. So I definitely don't fall into your fanboy category. And when I tell you that the iphone works better in overall performance than the other phones......you better believe it! LOL

  5. For the same reason as to why Christians bother you. Different topic, same annoyance.

What is your job description exactly? Software testing? Usability testing? Hardware testing?

Regardless of what type of testing you do, testing is based on a set of requirements and specifications that are designed before the actual implementation of the product or service. And these requirements don't include "our feature must be better than company xyz's product abc's feature".

So you will forgive me if I don't believe it when you tell me that the iphone works better in overall performance than the other phones, simply because you're a tester. Don't worry, I don't even believe the testers that work with me. I believe in testing that are properly designed, and in testing of testing. There's a concept in programming that many developers are too lazy to adopt: "Test your tests, and then test your product". If your tests are wrong, your entire testing is nulled. So just telling me you're a tester doesn't mean much to me (sorry).

However, if you are a bench-marker, I will be happy to look over your benchmarking data. I don't doubt the iphone is _optimized_ which may increase performance, but what are your benchmarked comparison? The Galaxy Nexus? The Galaxy Note? S2? One X? EVO 4G?

Please show me your analysis, I would love to see them (seriously, no sarcasm), as I think that would be very educational for me too.

YEP! I'm just a measly little tester and yes we do have a set of requirements and specifications that are set by our company before the actual implementation to 180,000 of our employees worldwide. And yes we do test software, hardware and usability. And half the phones you mentioned above don't even meet our security requirements to be in the corporate world. I would love to show you our analysis but that's just not possible being in the measly position I'm in. Plus I can't share corporate data with someone I hardly know, let alone in a public forum. Not worth getting fired over. You'll just have to take my word for it. But knowing you, that's going to be hard for you to digest and you will just continue to try and analyze me instead.

  7. I never said your position was measly. Testers are required, but the problem is that testing is becoming a lost skill since schools don't teach the proper testing procedure. Testing is huge. Problem is, testers don't do them properly. At least at my IBM location that is.

And I fully understand corporate confidentiality. I was hoping if you could shed light on some things you and your company look for when comparing devices. And as for security, yea Android needs work. But then again, so does iOS. They top Android just by a little bit, but they're still there. I assume you've compared with blackberries as well, in terms of security. That would be a fairer comparison.

It's not you I'm trying to analyse, not sure why you said that. It's data that I'm trying to analyse. And at this time, there are no data to speak of. I'm not about to turn into those Christians you despise so much.

Ah....you were reading my mind! hahaha props to you again! Regarding security, when we 1st tested the iphone3 they were horrible we didn't even allow them on our network and you were right. BB were superior in that aspect and we had over 80% users on BB. We went and talked to Apple and met with their developers and gave them our analysis, show them their flaws in the iphone3. They immediately addressed it and released a new firmware so it would work in our environment. I don't know if you remember or not. But during that time, many users and reviewers said they were only focused on consumers and not businesses. I would like to take some credit that our company was a strong force in making Apple focus more on the corporate world. We tried to approach Android and HTC the same way. But they didn't want to listen to us because they were too busy focusing their sales overseas, since that's their main market at the time. Unfortunately, we didn't get the same respect. That's the difference between a world class company vs a company that wants to be world class. It's a matter of listening to your customers and acting on it.

  9. You know, I can't tell whether I sense a slight hint of sarcasm or not.. It doesn't translate well through the interwebz :[

But if I may ask, what company do you work for?

And if there are any security vulnerability, it would need to be corrected in the operating system. Contacting HTC/Samsung would be kind of useless, since they really have no ability to make core-level changes required to fix a security vulnerability.. You should contact Google directly, which I assume you did.

You know, the idea of a "world class company" is an interesting one. What makes something "world class"? What are the criteria? What defines "world class"? Is it a culmination of opinions that would make something "world class"?

In regards to "listening to your customers and acting on it", I do highly agree. Google/HTC/Samsung/Asus/whatever are technological companies. Apple is a packaging company, similar to Red Hat, with strong abilities in marketing. Like Red Hat, Apple takes existing technologies, packages them in such a way to offer a new product/service. It then bundles that product/service with effective marketing, and customer satisfaction/support initiatives. Any and all companies should listen to their customers. Apple is just a few steps ahead because that is what Apple specializes in, marketing and customer relations. If Google and Apple were people, Google would be a graduate of engineering major, whereas Apple would be a graduate of engineering/marketing double minor.

    Edit:

Great letter that is relevant: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/so-it-begins-apples-victory-affecting-htcs-us-imports/

Which brings me to another point: Aside from the common arguments that iOS performs better due to more optimization on less devices, the REAL R&D IT companies out there are deploying new innovative features. Of course they'll be buggy. Of course they'll lack performance. But then I'm sure you already know this.

Anyway, I do submit that HTC and w/e are at fault as well. In the end, they're all in the business of making money, and not give a shit about anything else. Money is blinding.

^ Again it's all about business and making money. That's the bottom line. Apple is doing smart business. Instead of inventing something new with many bugs and pushing them out to customers and then later fixing them with patches and firmware updates, that is not Apple's business model. Instead they steal (as you would call it) other proven inventions and making it better by changing the codes a little and than patenting that new code as their own. Lot's of companies do this, it's nothing new.

HTC/android like to push shit out just to get market share without extensive R&D, they use the consumers as guinea pigs and fixes the problems when people start complaining. Go look at the XDA Developer forum for those who are bitching and griping. Of course there are a lot of fanboys there that praise the android as the best thing since slice bread. It's very similar to Mac vs PC. Mac locks down the OS and are extremely proprietary on their apps. While PC has the freedom of making any changes that suits the person's need. Such as warez and registry hacks etc. Android phones you can do the same, there are so many custom firmwares and apps out there you can hack the phone to do almost anything. That's why so many people like it. Although u can do the same with iphone by jailbreak, but it's not as easy. I've been a HTC user for over 5 years before switching to iphone. So I hack the crap out of the phones for personal and business needs.

What I'm trying to say is, Apple focus on making things easier and better for the general consumer and adds a bling to it. Their shit just works right out of the box and you don't have to be a techie to know how to use it and it looks nice. that is why they are in the position they are in now.

No matter what, there will be haters on both sides and patents will continue to be infringed on between companies. It's just not worth arguing over. It's up to the FTC and our politicians to come up with laws that will govern patent infringements.

As for the company I work for, I rather not say. I can tell you we have a pretty big presence in Silicon Valley and that's as much I like to share. Please respect my privacy.

  11. Yes I realize that. I've been saying that throughout the thread.

Forgive me for lol'ing. I'm sure you have some insider secrets to back this up. I'm sure Google X Lab is just for show right? I mean, they're not Apple, so they must just be in the business of pushing shit out without extensive R&D. Because frankly, unless you've worked for HTC/Google, you (nor I for that matter) have no right to make this claim.

Oh, so you must be an expert. I'm sorry, I should have listened to you. You are a tester, a user and have been hacking your one phone model, thus you know more.

A skateboard that always works because it's a board on wheels vs a car that has electronics sensors crap out every few years. So what?

See, this implies that I'm taking Google's side, and I hate Apple. I'm not hating Apple. I hate those who don't know what they're talking about.

I understand, and I respect that. Intruding in your privacy is the last thing in my mind. Some feel they can disclose the company they work for publicly, whereas others don't, I obviously see and respect that.

Anyway, I'm starting to understand why you hate Christians. I'm starting to get the same feeling.

Dan, are you married or in a relationship? Because it must be hard being your girl or guy if you swing the other way. LOL You nitpick every little detail. I'm sure you are a smart enough guy to figure out what I'm trying to say. My R&D comment about android HTC etc are based on data few years back when they are the only PDA phones around before the iphone besides BB & Nokia. It wasn't till later when iphone and BBs start taking market shares, that's when they vamp up thier R&D. Inside info no, but I do work with or have acquittance with google developers to know maybe just a bit more than you. And yes I hack phones for fun and not just one model, I guess you didn't see the plural in phone(s) or when I say I'm a HTC phone user you automatically assume I only had one HTC phone. Regardless, I don't need o justify my expertise to you. You could call my BS all day long. It doesn't bother me. It's more entertaining watching you go off on yourself.

  13. I just happen to be detail-oriented that's all. Comes along the nature of being a developer I guess. But hey, if you can't handle the scrutiny of the internet, feel free to walk away, no one is preventing you from doing so lol. But if you think it's entertaining, stick around. I'm rather enjoying myself.

LOL, if I'm not enjoying it, I would've walked away long ago. Like Bulla! hahahahaha

anyways it's a breath of fresh air to chat with you, at least you seem to be pretty intelligent. Just don't like how you nitpick and take everything apart at times. Lighten up and don't be so serious all the time, you'll be more happier.
