I think Mandarin songs sound softer, but I have been listening to cantopop for so long I tend to prefer it. But both are good.
I like listening to fast songs, so either Canto or Mando is good if they have a good beat. Singing karaoke, I prefer Canto cuz it's my native language & I think Mando sounds too wishy washy and feminine. Speaking, I prefer Cantonese cuz I'm a guy & I think it sounds more masculine to speak Canto
i think it depends on the song itself. some sounds better is canto but when sung in chinese, sounds funny especially if its direct translation
totally agree. altho my understanding of lyrics in canto songs is limited.. i appreciate mando songs better. only exception would be... canto songs re-released in mando. i absolutely hate when they do that.
Actually some songs sound better in Mandarin and others in Cantonese. Even though I don't understand Mandarin I still listen to it cause sounds nice.
It really depends on the singer and how the song was created. If a song is very good and sang by the right singer, then it is a masterpiece. On the other hand, it can be a disaster, if the song is not right for the singer's voice. Maybe this is why greatest hit songs can't be replaced by other singer's voice.
i thin it depends on the song. Mandarin is a lil smoother than cantonese on upbeat songs. But both sound as good with slow songs.
Eventhough i don't speak or understand much of manderine, i prefer Manderine songs even if its of the same canto song. I don't if its just me, but i feel that manderine seems to sound much smoother so therefore the song seems to slow a bit more if you get what i mean!
i speak both, but i prefer manderine and cantonese karaoke (Twins) cause i don't know their songs tend to be more "upbeat" lol
it doesn't bother me at all as long as both is good song. sometimes it's sound good with canto not with mando and sometimes opposite. I think I prefer both coz i can understand both... -rockon -rockon
