they made more movies abt Wong Fei Hung coz he lived in Canton which is very very close to HK... plus his wife went to HK so he's more well known there... that's y back then HK movie makers used his name to make movies... where as Huo Yuan Jia is in Shanghai so HK ppl r not as farmilia with him... but they still made a lot of movies abt Huo Yuan Jia's National Martial Arts Institutes... there isn't a lot of informtation abt Huo Yuan Jia out there... perhaps coz he died early... but Wong Fei Hung's wife lived till early 1980s to tell ppl his great tale
nah... sometimes i'm just curious abt how many of the characters i c on tv r real n how many r made up... n i just read a bit abt them... i think i mentioned it on my Wong Fei Hung thread in the Chinese Talk section
Does National Martial Arts Institutes = Chin Woo Athletic Association according to wikipedia Many sources say that Chin Woo was founded by Huo Yuanjia[1], the famed challenge fighter who died within months of its establishment. However, this gives the false impression that only one person founded the entire association when in reality it was founded by a committee of people. Due to Huo Yuanjia's popularity and recent death, the committee had decided that he should be the "face" of Chin Woo, resulting in his strong association with it. Huo Yuan Jia died at 44, Wong Fei Hung at 77 see Wong Fei Hung beat him there too kungfucinema.com After Fei Hung's death a series of novels appeared in several newspapers authored by Woshi Shanren. The topic of these fictional accounts propelled the story of Wong Fei Hung to mythic proportions with heroic tales embellished with the author's imagination. It wasn't long before these popular stories were tapped by Peking Opera alumni for a ambitious series of feature length films. Will the Real Wong Fei Hung Please Stand Up? Wong Fei Hung is remembered as a Chinese patriot, a healer, a philosopher, and a martial artist who stood for the rights of the oppressed within a country long plagued with corrupt leadership. Yet the more we see Fei Hung portrayed in film, the less we really know of the man. While still hugely popular in China, little serious effort has been made in film or fiction to chronicle an accurate version of Fei Hung's life, particularly in the West. Played as a budding martial artist, an immature young adult, an austere patriot, or as a wizened elder, the real Fei Hung continues to elude us. Perhaps this is not so important. Like all heroes of myth and history, the legend of Wong Fei Hung will no doubt continue to inspire and entertain people around the world for years to come. Not saying both men are not great, but the question is who would win in a fight. I'm saying Wong Fei Hung from what I seen in the movies -cool
but Huo Yuan Jia died of poisoning n Wong Fei Hung died of old age... it's different -huh? i think Wong Fei Hung's dad is the best!! he's one of the Ten Tigers of Canton...-rolleyes
yea but wong fei hung... also mastered drunken style!! and beat thunder legs... with master "So Hut Yee!" -lol
hahaha... u bois prolly know more abt martial arts than i do.. but i just think if 2 men have the same level of martial arts skill n one's 20 years younger than i would put my $$ on the younger guy
If your going by the movie fearless sure he died from poison and he only fought one japanese guy. According to Huo's grandson, Huo's death came after the defeat of the ten members of the Japanese Judo team. Werid how in fearless all of Huo's family was killed >.< If I had to pick my favorite Ten Tigers of Canton, Sue Hut Yee, The Legendary King of Beggars. Blah, Dawn and Ecko posting to fast for me to keep up =P
