when i have children, ill of course teach them chinese though im not the best person to be teaching chinese., ill have their grandparents do it..haha. Its just good in general for a person to know multiple languages, it helps the brain out and also allows them to have a more flexible tongue. like those who speak cantonese have and easier time speaking mandarin since their are more tones but mandarin people have a harder time speaking cantonese
Same here aswell. I started pretty late and just messed around so mines ain't up to scratch. I still struggle with it a lot.
for sure, no matter what, i mean thats part of being chiense if you speak it, if you don't then you're not really 101% chinese then are you,
I've actually thought about this topic a lot, but I never really came up with an answer. I would like to think that I would teach my kids Chinese, regardless of whether I marry a Chinese or non-Chinese person. I really don't know though. I think more people these days are losing the will to learn Chinese. I'm Chinese and I feel that my Chinese is really choppy. I don't know a lot of vocabulary that you would normally hear in Hong Kong or China.
yeah...im gonna force my kids to learn chinese...they must know at least how to speak it...since my reading and writing sux...i cant blame them for not being great at that
Yes, sure. They will accept the language if you talk to them when they are babys and raise up with Chinese. Best chance to learn more is to watch Chinese TV. That my best way to learn and improve my Cantonese since I've moved from HK to Germany.
yes i will teach them how to speak chinese, also others languages as well.. say i m living in south east asia countries, so i hope my kids will learn east asia languages as well.
If I ever have kids, my children would learn all that I know (even if I don't know how to write or read chinese) I'll let my parents take care of that.
because myself don't know chinese at all. Can talk cantonese only. Can't read or write or understand Mandarin.... Have to mix around with those chinese friends with chinese educate, talk to them more in Mandarin
But the most important things is you must know how to read and write your own chinese name..... that is for sure.... people will laugh at you if you don't know your own name.
But when people ask you what is the meaning of your name? or which chinese character words? That one, don't know, have to write down then only they will know your actual name..... -huh that's why I'll make sure my kids should know chinese
Ckhar, you might want to think and write in one post because it would be considered as spamming when you post like that.
yeah....and get them to watch Youtube...make ur whole house like those in china...incense, chinese posters, i got chinese Radio (parents listen) ive learnt so much cool phrases from it...
