i would definately teach my kidz mandarin... though my mandarin is kindda half past six.. haha.. i think there IS an advantage of knowing mandarin.. and that is being able to watch twdramas haha
would be knda stupid if i ended up marrying a chinese woman, who could only speak english n not chinese as well...won't be realy gd, if communicating wit like me parents or any1 else, cos the majority speak chinese as our main language. English would only be prefered 2 use, with ppl lke me sistas or friends generally.
My son (9 yesterday!!!) can speak Cantonese and English But also learning Manderin, French and Japanese
I'm definitely going to teach my kids cantonese and mandarin. But I should worry some other problems before that =="
I would teach them chinese of course.. Thats why I ll marry someone chinese.. Traditions must be carried on Azn pride =D
I'd enrol my kids in a chinese school coz I can only speak chinese (cantonese & mandarin) but not read/write. I regret that.
well i dink u should know ur language no matter if ur chinese korean japaness or w/e its ur language u should know it
of course why not, 2 language is always better than 1. And in order to keep our native language alive.
I probably will, but won't force them to learn. My cousins think chinese class is like going to art class. They think chinese characters look like painting <_<
definitely! being a chinese/ mixed, i guess its essential to acquire cultural heritage ie learning how to speak or write the language.
I would definitely teach my kids Chinese too Canto & Mando! (We all know Canto's better though!) I hope no one is taking a poll from this site... everyone here watches Asian TV, so the statistics are going to be biased
Guess i agree with you, its part of chinese culture, i would be a bit strange to only be able to communicate with your own kids in a 'foreign' language. And it would be sad for them, as chinese not able to speak chinese. I know a lot of peeps(foreign) who are very hard trying to learn mandarin, because they like the country or because of the potential of the chinese economy. So why don't grant your children a 'competative advantage' by teaching them chinese as one of their 'mother tongue'. Kids can learn languages best when they are young.
I think that it is great to teach your children Chinese, I belive that in 10-20 years Chinese will be as important as English.
