have u tried discussing the situation with ur boss? as dumb as he is, u seem to have the upper hand cause he needs u more then u need the job.
dont really feel that u are screwing him over, it's more of whats best for u. in the business world, it's all about the green. as bad as that sounds. it's the truth.

    I AM A GIRL
what made you think i wasn't

I'm anexpert compared to the rest of the people in my company, cause they are too old to know anything new, but also i'm submerged into their old material and their ways, that it would take too much time to train someone new

no i haven't talked with him, cause there are TOO many things i dont like
and half of them they just can't provide anyways, such as a community of people my age to work with

take over the owner of the company???
Visa? I'm Canadian working in the united states, I'm trying to et this visa called an H1-B visa which would allow me to work while applying for a green card
and to get that visa, just costs a lot of money, so i dont want to put a company through it if i'm just going to leave

i was ethical until I learned the hard way...companies now are dog eat dog types

u have to look out for yourself FIRST. But remember, once they know you want to leave, everything changes...they will put a plan in place to replace you...

either way, you have to prepare an exit if you are working in the states...my 3 cents...you cant really base your career because u are holding up the company...it is what you think you are worth, and what the company think you are worth...somehow you have to find the balance.

But remember though, the next job has to be a stable and better one cuse, u dont wanna work there for three months and realise how good it was in your current job,,,

    have fun debating it....cheers

^ lol.. cos u are a software engineer.. maybe thats why..

  8. with a leader like him sooner or later he's gonna give himself a bad name in the industry n u can't con the same customers over n over again... so it sounds like if u dun screw up ur company ur boss will :p i'd flee if i were u... before ur company shuts down one day without paying ur wages for months...

he's been in the industry for 20 years
i dont know how it stays

  10. 20 yrs n his company still has only 10 employees... -shock... i wonder how many did he start with... hmmm~~

  11. if you wana leave then you should, your just gona end up all burned out and depressed otherwise. you should give them ample notice and then they should be able to plan ahead and get a new employee.

he has less than he started with

now it's just enough to keep it going
there isn't much in development anymore
it's just sales of a product that has been recycled way to many times

it wont burn me out because it's hard work
    it's quite easy
    but it's fustrating
like one of those peole who add things at random times ALL THE TIME
    and messes up people's schedules

ALthough i think i will be depressed if i stay here longer

No offense, but I don't think the company will just topple over and die if you quit your job. Nobody is THAT important, the company may have to go through some hardship, but obstacle is nothing new.

More to the point, if you want to take the leave, do it. There's no use suffer through a job you don't like, eventually your attitude will affect your productivity, and if you quit THEN, there will be grievance...

Unless of course, they pay you enough to buy your ego, your conscience AND your attitude, then you MAY consider staying.

There are hundreds of companies in the same situation as your company is. A lot of technology firms are small and have 10-20 employees only. I'm pretty sure all your clients know your boss is BS-ing when he uses certain titles on the employees or when he call you "Director of Techology". Its just the nature of the industry, you don't need that many developers to maintain or develop a decent application.

I have to agree, no company will topple over after 20 years just because of 1 employee, unless of course its the boss.

In which case you should just screw them over and start sending resumes... No CS people should be underpaid.
