If Yao gets shaq's stats(when he was with the lakers)...then he clearly is the best centre in the NBA.
I hope yao ming will be well enough for the 2008 olympics but by the way of things I don't think he will be able to play.
I don't know about the best but hes a good center thats able to hit the jumper and spread the floor... But hes a little soft to be a dominate center It would be interesting to see Yao and TMac have a full season together without any injuries

yao is a finesse center like okur as oppose to centers like shaq, howard, amare staudimire. i wouldnt say yao is the best center, but hes in the top 5. one thing is yao isnt as mobile, so the tempo is always slow when he plays, which is good defensively but bad offensively. he also wont get much shots since the tempo is so slow, so dont expect him to fill the stat sheets.
in my opinion yao is not the best center. for years we have been saying yao could get better,he has but just not enough that could earn him a championship. yao does not have the power like most center does going up for a drive or rebounding the ball. when you are 7'6 tall and when you extend your arms all you have to do is jump a foot off the ground to dunk it,with that height your ability to make a basket should be a high percentage. not only does a center has to play good defence but should also contribute with a little passing,and making plays. i think the top 5 centers in the nba are: 1.duncan 2.shaq 3.dwight howard 4.yao and 5.marcus camby.
duncan is not really a center, he is more of a power forward. Howard is currently the best center in the league. Camby is good too but very underrated.
What do you guys think about Amare Stoudemire he is fast is a Center always a big help for the suns. i think amare is the best in the league Atm. But next year if Greg Oden is playing i think he will be a BEAST (btw tim duncan is a PF)
Shaq is now the center on the Suns. Amare is the PF. But then a lot of PF play Center, and a lot of Centers play PF -- so the distinction is not always crystal clear. But I think Howard is the best now. Perhaps Greg Oden in a couple years...
i def think howard is tied with yao for dominance..dwight is just too good to ignore...they are def the top two right now, kendrick perkins is up and coming as is bynum...
If Yao is more aggressive, he will be unstoppable. But it is not in his character and his stamina won't last. He is a top 3 active center.
