uhm... Dwight Howard is only an inch taller and 5lbs heavier than Tim Duncan... how can u say Duncan's not a "true" center? Bill Russel was 6'10 and 220lbs... Amare is 6'10 and 240lbs... how the hell can u guys argue based on size? if Yao Ming and Shaq are the definition of a "true" center... then there's only been about 5 centers every decade of basketball... that's just stupid...
I thought Tim Duncan refuses to play at the center position. That is why he is always at power forward. Maybe when they need to switch to a smaller lineup, he'll play center. Kevin Garnett has started at power forward for most if not all of his career also.
no... Tim Duncan couldn't play the center position because Robinson was the center... so they listed Duncan as a forward... even when they do have another bigman like they did Nesterovic/Thomas/Nazr... when Robinson retired, the anchor was always Duncan... Thomas was an actual bonus though cuz he, unlike the other two, actually played some defense... rather than just filling the gaps... Garnett is a natural power forward, he doesn't "hover" around the rim, he actually plays well just about anywhere inside the three point line... Duncan on the other hand doesn't have Garnett's shot, and u rarely see him actually move out towards the perimeter with the exception of screens and pick n rolls... Amare u can technically argue is still a power forward only because he doesn't yet have the presence under the rim unless he's got the ball on offense... but that's partly the Suns' fault for playing such an all out offense style, but he does have the attributes to play like Shaq or Howard...
The way the Suns gutted their roster, Amare's going to have more chances to play "big" this season. No more running and gunning.
swing them elbows big guy, guarantee lower turn over. those little guys wouldn't dare to come close to him ________ RAMBLER CLASSIC
wow lots of stuff, yaos is a good center not great, no athleticism like ppl say, he can get teh reb and stuff, based on stats, 20-20 almost same as dwight howard, but FT are key, i think yao is better for now, howard if he improves that and shoot a bit from outside paint then will be better, outwise, i say pau gasol when he plays center can be really effective, other then his underachieving performance in the finals , he can get u great scoring, rebs and blocks and he can pass and shoot from outside.
I think Yao's back in training for China and should be playing friendlies soon... he will be back for the games for sure at this rate...
Yao Ming is good but I have never liked his game. He's too soft. Dwight Howard would destroy him on any given night
Personally i think ppl overate yao way too much, here's how i see it, all the asians vote for him for the allstar games just for the sake of supporting their asian pride, and i just think that because of yao's huge fan base the gets overrated in the nba video games
^lol I do think he's slightly overrated... but I still rate him as an allstar... If I got to choose the team, Tim Duncan would start at center, then Yao/Kaman would have been my 2nd/3rd choice... Kaman woulda been my 1st choice if he played all season like he did the first 2 months of the season... I do however think everyone is overrating Bynum though... he's a great young player, maturing, and will make an impact... but far from a polished center piece... and doesn't deserve so much hype...
Duncan has played PF more in his career and is still consider as a PF and not a center. Amare is not a center. DHoward needs to work on his offensive game. Shaq should retire. Bynum has the making of a beast but that is still until a couple years from now. Overall, Yao has to be the most well rounded center by far. Great offensive game and has really worked on his D these couple of years. Too bad injuries really hurt him as well as his teammates.
Duncan played PF cuz Admiral Robinson was the "center"... but both players played the same role... He's not a PF, he's a damn Center, he played center in college, he guards other "true centers" like Yao, Shaq and Howard... how is he NOT a center? by your same argument that he played more at PF cuz he was labeled a PF, Dwight Howard is ALSO a PF... and clearly he isn't... Amare is a center, he's the second coming of Shaq in terms of offensive power... Dwight Howard is a 20/10 man, but Amare can kill u in the paint all night putting 30 down ur throat and making u swallow another 10 boards on a run and gun Phoenix team, that's bloody impressive... if Shaq wasn't there, Amare would be Center... and be surrounded by guards... and Grant Hill.... Yao is not well rounded, athleticism is shite, his footwork like most Chinese players is terrible, and has just finally adjusted to what playing "Center" in the NBA requires you to do... he maybe playing 40+mins in a lot of games now, but he's still tired for 20 of them... u see him bending over sucking air at every free throw and time out...
